Yes, it’s hot in Singapore (and also often wet) which means that deciding what to wear on your feet is as important as what you wear on the rest of your body. The best shoes for getting around the city are comfortable, stylish flats … if they’re affordable as well, that’s even better
When it comes to shoes in Singapore, it’s all about comfort, affordability and style. Since we don’t get seasons ‒ it’s basically always hot; and dry or wet, at most ‒ adding a great looking pair of shoes is an easy way to add a touch of style or colour to your look. On top of that, you want your shoes to be comfortable, and for most of us, that means a pair of flats or maybe a mid-height heel or a pair of wedges. Still, you don’t have to splash out on exotic, luxury brand shoes for everyday wear when there are some great affordable options available. Here are five great options to choose from
Multifunctional mules
We love mules which are, after flip-flops and slides, the easiest shoes to wear. Basically, you just slip your feet in and off you go. Also, if you need to give your poor, hardworking feet a bit of a break, then you just slide your feet out under your desk. Mules – which are basically ballet flats with no back on them (although you can get heeled versions too of course) – go with everything from workwear to floaty dresses for brunch. Here are some new season versions which are super affordable as well as stylish.

Strappy sandals
We live in a tropical country, which means, if we want to, we can wear sandals every single day, for any event and even in the office. Here are some great examples that you can strut in from work to the weekend and back again. Go for bright colours, like the Castañer espadrilles, or for more neutral tones like these Liu Jo sandals to get the most wear out of your buy.
Pedder Red x Fleamadonna Black or Pink suede strappy sandal, $230; Castañer Kimita Embetada Plana velvet sandals in Albaricoque, Amarillo & Verde Menta; Liu Jo Spring Summer shoes (various styles)
Not-so-basic ballerinas
We all love a good pair of ballerina flats; they’re basically the go-to flat shoe for everyone in Singapore. To get a more up-to-date look, you need to choose a not-so-basic ballerina like these versions with added straps, bling and buckles, a loafer style, or go for the espadrille look in a bright colour (or three).
Pedder Red Kelly stud strap flats, $200; Pedder Red Kaden buckle suede loafers, $200; Pedder Red Bella cross strap ballet flats, $170; Pedder Red Bernie bow-embellished kid leather ballerinas, $180; Pedder Red Joey velvet with metal plaque ballerinas, $190; Pedder Red Jamie grosgrain with metal plaque ballerinas, $200; Castañer Kamping Plana in stripes, Kenda Plana with 3D embellishments, Kenda Rafia Alga with embroidery & Kimberly Plana with rafia.
Super slick sneakers
Yep, ‘fashion sneakers’ are here to stay; they have now become a staple of every woman’s shoe wardrobe, so why not invest in a few new versions? There’s everything available from classic white, mini platform versions, bling-ed up styles and even faux snakeskin. We totally endorse wearing sneakers in the workplace.
Pedder Red x Fleamadonna white leather sneaker, $270; Liu Jo sneakers in faux snakeskin, prints & embellished leather.
Fabulous flatforms
The thing about the ‘flatform’ shoe (made famous by Stella McCartney ‒ they’re all over celebrity Instagram accounts) is that they give you height without the foot and back pain that comes with wearing high heels. The ‘classic’ flatform shoe is the lace-up or Derbie, but the concept holds true for these espadrille-style sandals as well. If you need height but hate heels, these are the shoes for you.
Pedder Red flatform Derbies in pewter, $240, and leather with wood, $260; Liu Jo espadrille style sandals.
Pedder Red and Pedder Red x Fleamadonna shoes are available from Pedder Red, #03-04 Ngee Ann City, 391 Orchard Road; and Pedder on Scotts, Level 2 Scotts Square, 6 Scotts Road. Liu Jo is located at #02-49 Paragon Mall 290 Orchard Road, and Castañer is located at #03-14 Ngee Ann City, 391 Orchard Road.
