Hong Kong is full of talented creatives doing cool things. The illustrations of Kylie Chan always makes us laugh, Carol Luk crafts gorgeous ceramics and the designs of Sarah Lai are feminine and wearable. Recently, we sat down with former international model Lim Tse-Wei, Alex, who now spends his time behind the camera.

Originally from Singapore, Lim Tse-Wei, also known as Alex, has made Hong Kong home for a few years now. Prior to this, the talented model could be found gracing the international catwalks of designers including Givenchy, Hermes and Calvin Klein, but he’s found a new love, and that’s behind the scenes as a photographer.
Lim started as a bar singer before finding his way into the world of modelling, and enjoyed an illustrious career before finding his way to the camera. “As a model, it’s really all about genetics, there’s no changing that, but as a photographer, I get to be more creative. There’s story-boarding and different parts that I enjoy, but I really like showing the side of the models that I want to show.”
While Lim works on a number of commercial projects, his personal aesthetic is much edgier, and he often uses the worn streets of the city or everyday locations as a backdrop for his work.

As a creative in Hong Kong, Lim uses the word “challenging” to describe what it’s like to work in this busy city, but we love his visual story-telling, and hope to see lots more of it in the future.
