TIL – Today Is Long
An independent Aussie-style coffee shop in Sai Ying Pun, TIL provides a soothing environment for guests to enjoy unique Australian coffees. Inspired by the name “Today Is Long”, TIL provides two choices for guests: those who opt for “short day” will enjoy low caffeine drinks and those who choose “long day” will be given combo shots or cold brew. What’s cool is that guests can switch to plant-based milk without an additional cost. Located in Tai Kwun, Between is a 3000-square-foot coffee bar with unique coffee cocktails in addition to coffees. Starting Over Espresso
While some gimmicky coffees are not that up-to-standard, Starting Over Espresso provides both fine coffees and picture-perfect spots. Founded by Jeffie Cheung, winner of the 2014 and 2017 Hong Kong Region Toper Roaster Master Championship, Starting Over Espresso makes pour-over coffees at the table, teaching customers brewing knowledge as well as details of the coffee beans used. The blue telephone booth is where visitors can order grab-n-go coffees aside from taking Instagrammable photos. The delectable food and quirky interior design are already enough to make Mamaday a great place, but what makes them truly unique is their concept. Having three branches in Hong Kong, Mamaday embraces a chill life attitude, literally naming themselves “mediocre” in Cantonese. Pay close attention to their offbeat menu names such as Don’t-expect-too-much Eel Tamago Rice ($146), Nothing Special Chicken Wings ($68) and Black Truffle Mushroom Fettuccine Again, Really? ($106). Café Crêpe
Opening its second Hong Kong store in K11, Café Crêpe makes fresh crepes, both sweet and savoury, right in front of you. Try their signature selections like Butterscotch Apple Crisp, Lobster Newberg, Matcha and Berry Parfait, or even build your own crepe with ingredients such as salami and avocado. With a huge floral wall, White Hse is a pinky cafe that garnishes each plate with flowers. Our fave item on the menu is the Velvet Goldmine which is naturally dyed by purple cabbage and comes with shrimps, mussels and gold foil on the top. We also recommend the Cookie Cup, which you can drink milk from a cup-shaped cookie with chocolate coated on the inside. Bonus: you can take pretty photos here with your pets.

No, the waffle colour is not photoshopped. Having a black-and-white theme, Contrast serves various foods that you wouldn’t expect to be black in colour. On top of the black waffle, they also have Charcoal Toast with Scrambled Egg, Squid Ink Linguini, and more black foods. Of course, they do have items that aren’t black but are equally delicious. This boutique coffee shop gives a cool vibe with the light grey cement on the walls. Everyone’s fave local cookie brand is popping up at The Upper House until the end of August, and they’re bringing coffee! That’s right, you can get your cookie fix on level 6 and they even have a limited edition Earl “Gray” Cookie made especially for The Upper House. Devour them with coffee in hand on the lawn and soak in the sunshine. Or, throughout June and July, sample the afternoon tea set that includes a selection of cookies as well as delicate pastries from Café Gray Deluxe such as Beef and Black Garlic Choux, Yuzu-Coconut Gateaux, and Peach Verrine.

Okay, so technically not new, but we’ve never mentioned Hushush before on the site and feel like we need to. This Sai Kung gem is all about homemade ice cream with flavours such as Salted Caramel and Banana & Toasted Walnut, but we are big fans of the Affogato that’s made with delightful ice cream, coffee, and topped with a homemade pizzelle.

Without a doubt, Owls is the trendiest coffee shop in Lai Chi Kok (and possibly the whole of Hong Kong).
