Hungry for a taste of Thailand? Head to Paed Thai in Canggu for an authentic feast that's full of flavour and modern-Thai style...
When it comes to really great Asian food, we’re spoilt for choice here in Bali. We have spice-packed local food, fiery Japanese, fresh Vietnamese and everything in between. But one thing we’re always craving? Authentic Thai food – the kind that transports you to the heart of Bangkok in just one bite. Well, that’s where Paed Thai steps in – a hot new table in Canggu that we’re adding to our foodie hit list.
Taking Canggu’s foodie scene by storm, a feast at Paed Thai is an entire experience, with its authentic Thai cuisine that pays homage to Thailand’s culinary quintessence: rich tastes, balanced flavours and spicy aromatics galore. True to form, each dish at Paed Thai is an explosion of flavours, complemented by the bar’s signature cocktails that add Thai twists to the classics. All of this, wrapped up in a picture-perfect Instagrammable space that put a modern-tropical spin on Thai culture.
Authentic Thai cuisine done right
First things first, the food. Paed Thai dishes up truly authentic flavours that take you straight to Thailand. The ingredients are as fresh as can be – think lemongrass, galangal, Thai basil and chillies – all paired with traditional spices and herbs, and whipped up by the talented chefs. The result? A sumptuous menu of Thai comfort food that’s perfectly sweet, salty, spicy and sour.
To give you a real taste of the Paed Thai experience, start with the chef’s signature plate of bone marrow; perfectly cooked, rich in flavour, and topped with special herbs, spices and sauces. You’ll also want to try the freshly shucked oysters, served with a tangy Thai lemon dressing. And of course, you simply cannot miss the restaurant’s namesake dish and everyone’s favourite Thai classic, the Pad Thai Goong – flat rice noodles wok-fried with peanuts, prawns and fish sauce, served with fresh bean sprouts and a slice of lime. Or, share the Pla Krapong Neung Manao, a Thai dish featuring steamed whole Grouper. Finish off with the pretty-as-a-picture Bua Loi, a classic Thai dessert served with caramelised banana.
Paed Thai is every Instagrammer’s dream
Get your cameras at the ready, because Paed Thai’s interiors are just as spectacular as the dishes it serves. This two-storey restaurant is designed in contemporary style, with an Insta-worthy double-height mural of beautiful Thai ladies taking you from the first to the second floor. From the staircase, you’ll want to stop and take in the view of the bustling restaurant. You’ll spot the skilled mixologists concocting your Thai-inspired cocktails at the bar, shaded by an indoor tree that takes centre stage on the first floor. It’s the perfect space for casual gatherings, with its large tables, comfy sofas and vibrant cushions. Or, for a more romantic dinner experience with a hot date, head upstairs for a more intimate setting in the quiet, low-lit space.
Signature cocktails, Thai-style
What better way to graze on delicious Thai dishes than with signature cocktails that are just as flavourful and spicy? Well, the cocktail menu here is all about infusing Thai flavours into unique tipples, while also adding That twists to the classics. Try the Nam Anchan – a delicate balance of vodka, butterfly pea flower tea, lime and elderflower – served in an elegant martini glass. Or if you love Thailand’s famous milk tea, try the Whiskey Thai Tea, made with whiskey, Thai tea and condensed milk, topped with luscious foam. And for those who fancy themselves as adventurous cocktail connoisseurs, the Paed Thai Tom Yum (yep, you read right!) is a must-try. This unique cocktail is a combination of vodka, red chilli, galangal tea, lemon juice and lemongrass, reminiscent of the nation’s famous Tom Yum soup!
If authentic Thai cuisine is on your foodie bucket list, then add Paed Thai to your Canggu itinerary – you’ll be transported straight to The Land of Smiles with every bite!
