For the most comfortable island-hopping adventure, we set sail on a private yacht with Day Trip Bali... Our destination? Nusa Penida, where adventures await!
Picture this: blue skies, crystal clear waters, emerald green islands all around and your very own yacht to explore it all. Yep, that’s paradise! Well, we did all of this and more with Day Trip Bali – the experts in creating extraordinary oceanic adventures to island-hop in style. They have an entire fleet of brand new boats for all budgets, from standard speedboats to luxury yachts, all designed to whisk you away to Bali’s outer islands.
So, we decided to hop on board one of Day Trip Bali’s very best boats for the Luxury Exclusive Experience to Nusa Penida island. We’re talking eight hours of sailing, snorkelling, swimming with Manta Rays, and spending an unforgettable day on the deck of a sparkling yacht, complete with certified guides and even a GoPro for those all-important underwater photos and videos.
Here’s what we got up to on our day trip to Nusa Penida with Day Trip Bali…
All aboard with Day Trip Bali!
Gone are the days of rollercoaster rides on the public fast ferry to the Nusa Islands, because with Day Trip Bali, you’ll be personally greeted in Sanur by your very own ride: a whopping 51-foot private power-yacht that offers smooth sailing to Nusa Penida… and smooth it was! As we hopped aboard the sleek and stylish vessel, a cosy and air-conditioned living room was a welcome respite from the warm Bali sun outside, with plenty of space to settle in, cool off, and prepare for the adventure ahead.
The spacious yacht is big enough for up to 20 people, but there are smaller boats to choose from depending on your group size and budget. We set sail with a group of 6, which meant we had plenty of space to kick back on the comfortable sofas, lounge on the upper deck, and even raid the on-board fridge before jumping on the floating beanbags!
It wasn’t long before we were cruising the open ocean towards Nusa Penida, just a short 40 minute ride away across sparkling waters and an ever-present ocean breeze. Up ahead, Nusa Penida draws closer, with its rugged cliffs, awe-inspiring coastlines, and untouched landscapes that are just begging for an adventure.
A day out with Day Trip Bali goes a little something like this…
With turquoise waters all around and the warm sunshine beating down, Day Trip Bali knows that an island-hop to Nusa Penida should always begin with a refreshing dip in the ocean. So as soon as we arrived at the aquamarine coastline, we geared up for a morning of swimming and snorkelling to explore Nusa Penida’s beautiful corals and colourful marine life. But what really took our breath away? A spectacular encounter with the resident giant Manta Rays! Up, down and all around, these majestic and friendly creatures gracefully cruised by. And the best bit is, it was all professionally captured on a GoPro thanks to Day Trip Bali’s nifty staff swimming alongside us.
It was bittersweet to say goodbye to the Manta Rays, with their angelic silhouettes and cute smiles gliding above us, but we got dry and continued our journey on land to experience the rest the island has to offer…
Ticking off Nusa Penida’s best bits
The professional guides first drove us to our stunning cliff-side lunch venue, Green Kubu Penida. Just 25 minutes from the harbour, we got to graze on Indonesian specialties and cold drinks, with Bali’s Mount Agung peeking above the horizon in the distance. We can never get enough of Indonesian food, but if you’d prefer to eat elsewhere, you can also customise your lunch and visit another restaurant instead, like Semabu Hills Restaurant, or the floating Lago Pantoon just off of Nusa Lembongan, which is only accessible by boat.
After lunch, we were driven to all the must-visit destinations on Nusa Penida, from the Insta-famous Kelingking viewpoint, to Broken Beach and Angel’s Billabong (the all-natural oceanfront infinity pool!). Once our on-land exploration came to an end, we drove back to the harbour, hopped on board, and began the sail back to Bali’s mainland.
Our top tip: if you can’t get enough of the ocean, opt for the Yacht Tour that takes you snorkelling all day at a number of different spots around the islands, from Crystal Bay and Gamat Bay, to Wall Point and Mangrove Point. Or, if you’d rather skip the morning itinerary, you can choose the Sunset Tour instead, which starts later in the day and means you get to bask in the golden sunset as you sail back to Bali. Whichever you choose, you’ll be cruising the most breathtaking coastlines in style…
But that’s not all… Add-on some awesome extras!
For an even more elevated island-hopping experience, Day Trip Bali gives you the chance to add-on a few special extras. You can book a transfer service to pick you up and drop you off at your Bali accommodation pre- and post-sail, and you can also make sure the boat is stocked full of everything you need during a day of exploring. We’re talking bottles of Champagne on ice, a fridge full of cold beer, and even jet-ski rental to take for a spin once you arrive in Nusa Penida’s harbour!
And for the memory books, you’ll definitely want to add-on a professional photographer, or even a drone operated by an experienced pilot! For special occasions, the team can even decorate the yacht, be it a birthday party, couple’s cruise or even a proposal!
Is there a better way to visit Nusa Penida than with a private yacht? We think not.
Just one look at all the thousands of reviews on TripAdvisor and it’s easy to see why Day Trip Bali is such a hit.
