Politician, activist & entrepreneur

Born and raised in Bali, Ni Luh Djelantik turned her passion for shoes into a world-famous brand. After studying and working in Jakarta, Ni Luh decided to move back to her homeland, where she started her own shoe label “Nilou” in 2003. Five years later in 2008, she rebranded her business to “Niluh Djelantik” which she patented and launched globally. After years of collaborating with other labels from all over the world, “Niluh Djelantik” gained recognition from A-List celebrities, including Julia Roberts, Gisele Bundchen, and even Paris Hilton.
But beyond her global business ventures in the fashion industry, Ni Luh has not forgotten her roots. She has risen to fame Indonesia-wide as a social activist and politician, making full use of her local and social media influence to cast a spotlight on social issues in Bali and beyond. From handling badly-behaved tourists to exposing criminals, and even fighting for gender equality, Ni Luh has become the go-to spokesperson for justice in Bali.
So much so, Ni Luh also became an official government representative which supported micro- and small businesses from the late 2010s to 2022. She also built a number of foundations – “Niluh Djelantik Foundation”, “Rumah Belajar Niluh Djelantik” and “Rumah Aspirasi Rakyat Bali” – to continue her support for local economic development.
