Don’t miss the first art exhibition by Kaleidoscopio.Studio in collaboration with John Hardy Bali, showcasing the island’s enchanting culture and all-natural materials...
There’s a reason why art and culture enthusiasts seem to gravitate towards Bali. The island is a mecca when it comes to creative inspiration, with countless craftsmen and women who have passed down heritage artwork and time-honoured techniques through generations. Paying homage to everything that Bali’s artisan community has to offer, John Hardy and Kaleidoscopio.Studio have joined forces to shine a deserving spotlight on Balinese culture.
Founded in 1975 from humble beginnings, John Hardy is on an important mission: to support Bali’s local community and to preserve the island’s most precious traditions. Backed by more than 600 talented chain-weaving artisans, this internationally acclaimed jewellery brand regularly opens the doors to its Seminyak boutique, not only showcasing the time-honoured traditions of chain-weaving, but also exhibiting local art and crafts. Well, this May, Kaleidoscopio.Studio is taking centre stage with EPHEMERAL – the studio’s first art exhibition, showcasing Bali’s rich culture through stunning headpieces made from all-natural materials.
The art exhibition by Kaleidoscopio.Studio is happening right now until 30th May 2024 at the John Hardy Boutique & Gallery in Seminyak. It’s your last chance to feast your eyes on ephemeral headpieces inspired by Balinese culture. And take it from us: this one is not to be missed…
A sneak peek of EPHEMERAL by Kaleidoscopio.Studio
EPHEMERAL is the inspiring exhibition by Kaleidoscopio.Studio, showcasing the beauty of natural materials often used throughout traditional Balinese rituals and ceremonies. The displays include wow-worthy headpieces, ornamental crowns and raw terracotta busts made by talented local artisans – all of which are centred around the concept of “ephemerality”, AKA “impermanence”.
As a visual interpretation of Balinese culture, the exhibition highlights the beauty of natural materials that are as fragile and meaningful as the concept itself – from delicate organic leaves and handmade papers that sway like feathers, to the more solid rattan and bamboo used to create structure. Each piece is thoughtfully designed to give you a sense of serenity, while the highly decorative and breathtaking visuals put you in a meditative state, connecting the mystical and the mundane…
Introducing the creative mind behind Kaleidoscopio.Studio
Founded by Carlos Pastor, a Peruvian-born photographer and art director who has worked with some of the most prestigious brands across the globe (Bulgari, Ritz Carlton and Harper’s Bazaar, to name a few), Kaleidoscopio.Studio is so much more than “just” an art studio. It’s a continuous exploration of visual anthropology and aesthetics, leveraging and highlighting the exceptional skills of local artists through various techniques – from sculpture and photography, to prints and window-dressing designs.
Using his expert eye for the unusual, as well as his passion for beauty and creating memories, Carlos has taken on the meditative concept of ephemerality as the focus of the studio… And the best bit is, you can experience it for yourself at EPHEMERAL, the studio’s first ever art exhibition, taking place in the heart of our beloved Seminyak neighbourhood.
