Meat-lovers this one’s for you! Whether you take your steak medium or rare, with chimichurri or butter, here’s the skinny on our favourite steakhouses in Jakarta.
Sure we try to balance it out with a healthy smoothie bowl every once in awhile, but we are true and true meat eaters and would never give up our carnivore ways! From Italian steakhouses to Japanese restaurants serving the silkiest serving of wagyu, and American-style USDA prime beef buried in butter, we’ve got a restaurant for every kind of meat-lover.
For high-end steaks, head to Union Group’s Bistecca, an elegant Italian-American chophouse and brainchild of Chef Luke Pezzera. The best dishes here are meant for sharing: Bistecca’s signature cut is their dry-aged Fiorentina (starting at 1KG!), while our go-to order is their silky smooth Tomahawk Australian wagyu. Come with a big and hungry group to sample all the sides, including Bistecca’s signature hand-cut fries (with egg and crispy pork bacon bits) and the truffle mac and cheese that truly hits the spot. And of course, to round things out with a stiff tipple, this steakhouse is famous for their classic martinis – done properly, with gion – so make sure you never miss a martini happy hour.

Ruth’s Chris Steak House’s impressive Jakarta outpost is undeniably upscale, and we’ll take any reason to go here. Luscious steaks are perfectly broiled and perfectly seasoned, and true to American-style, portions are gargantuan. Main event is of course the porterhouse for two (because that’s what you come for at Ruth’s Chris, after all.) Add on their special au poivre sauce and Oscar Style crab cakes to make it a perfect surf and turf. If you by some miracle still have room for dessert, we love their fluffy bread pudding with whiskey sauce. Dinner definitely comes at a hefty pricetag, but it is oh-so-worth it.

Angus House is a fine Japanese steakhouse that specializes in melt-in-your-mouth delicious glistening pieces of meat. Their kitchen does serves yakiniku and shabu-shabu if that’s what you’re craving for, but we’re always there for a hearty meal. Whether you’re in the mood for Kobe, wagyu or US prime, steaks are served still sizzling, with no-frills veggies on the side.

Situated in an unassuming building in Kemang, El Asador almost feels like Kemang’s best kept secret! We adore this South American steakhouse with its kick-ass servings of meat, and selections of darn good chimichurri sauces. The restaurant gets hot from its wood-fire parrilla grill that is the centerpiece of the restaurant. The brave and hungry should try out the all-you-can-eat grand feast, with every single cut of meat served still sizzling on a platter. Reservations are highly recommended as this buzzy spot is always packed. A must-try.

C’s Steak and Seafood
C’s Steak and Seafood at the Grand Hyatt Jakarta has long been one of the standard bearers of high-class dining in the capital. In recent years, it has undergone extensive renovations, giving it a modern look with lots of open kitchens and colourful produce on display to emphasize the new menu’s focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients. C’s has done a good job of incorporating more locally sourced produce in the menu, including bright, tart cherry tomatoes from Punchak. Their superlative steaks come from abroad, however, and C’s offers quite a few special breeds. For example, you’ll find Australian OBE beef, considered one of the best organic meats in the world. As the name of the place implies, super fresh seafood is also treated with great care here, making C’s one of the best places in town for surf and turf.
