WHERE TO EAT STEAK IN JAKARTA
1. Bistecca
For high-end steaks, head to Union Group’s Bistecca, an elegant Italian-American chophouse and brainchild of Chef Luke Pezzera. The best dishes here are meant for sharing, Bistecca’s signature cut is their Fiorentina (starting at 1kg!) dry aged for 45 days, while our go-to order is their silky smooth, 2kg Tomahawk Australian Wagyu. Come with a big and hungry group to sample all the sides, including Bistecca’s signature hand-cut fries (with egg and crispy pork bacon bits) and the truffle mac and cheese that truly hits the spot. And of course, to round things out with a stiff tipple, this steakhouse is famous for their classic stirred martinis.
Bistecca, 18 Parc Place SCBD Jl Jendral Sudirman No. 52 – 53 (p. +62 21 5151 660 / +62 812 9873 7378) & PIK Avenue Jl Pantai Indah Kapuk Boulevard (p. +62 21 2257 7710 / +62 812 1037 8088); Open daily from 11am.
2. Ruth’s Chris Steak House
Ruth’s Chris Steak House’s impressive Jakarta outlet is undeniably upscale, and we’ll take any reason to go here. Luscious steaks are perfectly broiled and seasoned, and true to its American roots, portions are gargantuan. Main event is of course the 40 ounces of Porterhouse for Two (because that’s what you come for at Ruth’s Chris, after all). Add on their special sauce and Oscar Style crab cakes to make it a perfect surf and turf. If you (by some miracle) still have room for dessert, we love their fluffy, white chocolate bread pudding with nutty Frangelico sauce. Dinner definitely comes at a hefty price tag, but it is oh-so-worth it.

3. Angus House
Angus House is a fine Japanese steak house that specialises in melt-in-your-mouth, delicious glistening pieces of meat. Their kitchen does serve yakiniku and shabu-shabu if that’s what you’re craving for, but we’re always there for a hearty meal. Whether you’re in the mood for Kobe, Wagyu or US Prime cuts, steaks are served still sizzling, with no-frills veggies on the side.

4. El Asador
Situated in an unassuming building in Kemang, El Asador almost feels like Kemang’s best kept secret! We adore this South American steak house with its kick-ass servings of meat, and selections of darn good chimichurri sauces. The restaurant gets hot from its wood-fire parrilla grill that is the centerpiece of the restaurant. The brave and hungry should try out the all-you-can-eat premium feast, with every single cut of meat they have, served still sizzling on a platter. Reservations are highly recommended as this buzzy spot is always packed…
El Asador, Kemang Point Building, Jl Kemang Raya No. 3, Bangka, South Jakarta, p. +62 21 718 2206, e. [email protected]; Open Mon – Fri from 11am, Sat & Sun from 10am.
5. C’s Steak and Seafood
C’s Steak and Seafood at the Grand Hyatt Jakarta has long been one of the standard bearers of high-class dining in the capital city. The space has gotten a modern look with lots of open kitchens and colourful produce on display to emphasise the menu’s focus on fresh, high-quality ingredients. C’s has done a good job of incorporating more locally sourced produce in the menu, including bright, tart cherry tomatoes from the mountains in Java. Their superlative steaks come from abroad, however, and C’s offers quite a few special breeds. Think Black Angus, Wagyu beef, and even veal chops and lamb racks. As the name of the place implies, super fresh seafood is also treated with great care here, making C’s one of the best restaurants in town for surf and turf.
C’s Steak and Seafood at Grand Hyatt Jakarta, Jl M. H. Thamrin No. 28 – 30, p. +62 21 2992 1298; Open daily 12pm – 10.30pm.
Happy munch-ing, Honeys!
