Lights, Camera, Action!
This year’s 7th Balinale film festival coincides with the APEC Economic Leaders Meeting, so if running the world gets a little dull then we know where we’ll find the delegates: sitting in a dark, air-conditioned cinema with a large box of popcorn, enjoying Indonesia’s only international film festival.
Held over a week, the program boasts over 50 films from 15 countries and includes red carpet opening and closing nights, film industry forums, and educational workshops. We can’t wait for American Songwriter, directed by Michael Altman (son of the legendary director Robert Altman), who will be in town to present his film.
There are some fabulous documentaries at this year’s festival; keep an eye for the International premiere of the New Zealand documentary Tatarakihi: The Children of Parihaka, and the Asian premiere of Birders: The Central Park Effect.
For any aspiring filmmakers on the island there will be a directing masterclass hosted by the “director’s director” Mark Travis. Anyone with kids should come along to the Sunday morning screening of Dino Time.
