More foodie glory for Singapore! While the Michelin guide may have a focus on fine dining establishments in Singapore, the World Street Food Masters focuses solely on the world’s street food and hawker scene. In short, this is where Singapore’s culinary scene is sure to excel – given our astounding hawker food culture – and the fact that 13 Singaporean hawkers have made the list (with Hill Street Tai Hwa Bak Chor Mee clinching first place too!) is proof of that.
The award is a significant one because it goes beyond just the quality of the food. In addition to sourcing of ingredients, food prep, basic hygiene, consistency, and flavour, the award takes into account the hawkers’ reputation, and their ability to inspire and create jobs in the local culinary scene. The award also puts our humble hawkers against street food vendors all over the world (an estimated 10 million according to the World Streetfood Congress!). Without further ado, here are the winners:
