Making plans for the weekend? Gather your troops and head Northeast to check out this spanking new shopping centre in the heartlands of Punggol
It’s no secret when it comes to the lengths we’ll go to hunt down some of Singapore’s hidden gems. Secluded restaurants in less-than-accessible locations? No big deal. A nature park tucked away on Coney Island? Been there, done that. So when we heard news that a spanking new shopping mall had just opened all the way in the suburban depths of Punggol, we just had to check it out.
Freshly opened on 18 January and located next to Punggol MRT (NE17), the new Waterway Point is a four-storey shopping mall with over 200 tenants – ranging from fashion to F&B, furnishings, and entertainment. But trust us, this ain’t your ordinary suburban mall.
Here are five things you can do at the new Waterway Point that piqued our curiosity.
1. Catch a movie on the big, big screen
That’s right: Waterway Point is home to the 1,500-seat Shaw Theatres IMAX (#B2-11) – which means if you want to catch Stars Wars: The Force Awakens for the 17th time (no judgements here), you won’t have to trek all the way to the city for a midnight screening. Plus points for convenience!
2. Shop ’til you drop at H&M and Uniqlo
Retail therapy awaits at Waterway Point with not one, but two major fashion brands: H&M (#01-64/#02-26) and Uniqlo (#01-21). Both stores are scheduled to officially open on 28 January and, true to form, you can expect in-store promotions and special giveaways. So mark your calendars and start planning your shopping lists!
3. 24-hour grocery shopping at Fairprice Finest
Got the midnight munchies after that late-night movie? Then Waterway Point’s 24-hour supermarket Fairprice Finest (#B2-32) will be a total lifesaver.
4. Check out Singapore’s largest Times bookstore
Calling all bookworms: spanning 7,335 square feet, Times bookstore (#02-19) at Waterway Point is the largest in Singapore. Pretty impressive for a neighbourhood mall, right?
5. Take in the view!
Just like how MBS has Marina Bay, the new Waterway Point boasts impressive views of the Punggol Waterway – offering visitors a chance to experience it with a 24-hour boardwalk and several al fresco dining options.
Waterway Point, 83 Punggol Central, Singapore 828761, p. 6812 7300. Open daily 10am-10pm.
