Playing on 25 July at the Singapore Indoor Stadium – their largest venue yet – The xx will be supported by the one and only Sampha
Ask any local hipster to name-drop one of their indie idols, and The xx will undoubtedly be one of them. Despite having a signature minimalist sound, this festival-headlining trio from London is one of the biggest bands in the world. And come 25 July, The xx will be making their third appearance in Singapore – yes, you can start hyperventilating now.
Backed by the slick production and beats of Jamie xx – an established solo artiste in his own right – guitarist, Romy Madley Croft, and bassist, Oliver Sim, are known for their intimate duets and captivating chemistry. Trust me when I say that, when it comes to showmanship, you won’t find a dynamic more intense than this (Sim’s piercing gaze has been to known to cause ovaries to explode).
Their latest Singapore gig at the Singapore Indoor Stadium – their biggest venue yet – will have them promoting their new critically-acclaimed album, I See You, that has already spawned Internet-breaking hits like “Say Something Loving” and “On Hold”. But without a doubt, it’ll be their old classics like “Crystalised” (2009) and “Angels” (2012) that will send the crowd into a sing-a-long frenzy.
And as if this gig couldn’t get any better, Secret Sounds Asia (the top-tier promoters who also brought down Two Door Cinema Club, Damien Rice, and Bon Iver) has announced that The xx will be supported by an opening act who, in my opinion, is outstanding enough to land a show of his own. Cutting-edge electronica and r&b musician, Sampha, will be on warm-up duties with his gooey grooves and buttery vocals.
Secret Sounds Asia presents The xx and Sampha live in Singapore, 25 July, 8pm, Singapore Indoor Stadium, 2 Stadium Walk, Singapore 397691. Pre-sale begins on 3 April, 10am until 6 April; general sales begin from 7 April. Tickets at $148, $128, $108, $98 from this website.
