PSA: The Bird Southern Table & Bar at Marina Bay Sands has launched an extended menu. Our verdict? It’s definitely worth the trip
When it comes to comfort food, the Honeycombers team adheres to one cardinal rule: You haven’t truly lived if you’ve not tried Southern American cuisine. An offshoot of Miami’s YardBird, The Bird Southern Table & Bar has proven to be a reliable destination for true blue, Southern classics in Singapore that even yo’ mama would approve of.
From chicken and waffles to shrimp and grits, The Bird’s got all of these heart-stopping dishes and so much more. For the uninitiated, the restaurant’s signature Lewellyn’s Fine Fried Chicken is a glorious, 100-year-old family recipe that’s brined for a whopping 27 hours and served with honey hot sauce. And if you think you’ve sampled it all (there’s really more than just fried chicken), you might want to pop a button for another round – they’ve just dished out an extended food and cocktail menu, featuring over 15 new items!
Southern blockbusters, rebooted
Did you know that The Bird draws its inspiration from a diverse range of cultures, including French, Spanish, Mediterranean and the Creole? You’ll find these influences in the jambalaya, a Louisiana rice-based seafood dish with spiced grains, seafood and fennel chicken sausage stewed in a rich soup stock. The muffuletta salad is a spin on the traditional Italian sandwich, which typically comes with a round Sicilian sesame bread. This brand new version comes packed with a mix of Italian cold cuts, aged parmesan cheese and plenty of greens. How does this carb-free reboot measure up to the tried and true original? You know there’s only one way to find out…
Vegetarians: you won’t be missing out
No boring ‘ol Caesar salads here; The Bird offers a full vegetarian menu that’ll please any leaf-loving fiend. With a selection of six starters, five entrees and up to eight sides and snacks, it’s a meat-free feast you won’t forget. Wild mushroom ravioli in truffled garlic broth and cauliflower steak with mushroom frites and chimichurri sauce are just some of the mouthwatering highlights.
Made in the USA? Heck, yes!
It’s always great to know the farm-to-fork process of any restaurant. That said, The Bird uses sustainable and all-American ingredients from renowned sources in the US. Benton’s Smoky Mountain Country Hams in Tennessee and Southern California’s grits producer Geechie Boy Mills are just some of the proud purveyors of artisanal techniques. Try the Southern barbecued shrimp – sautéed polenta cake made using quality grits and topped with fresh shrimps.
Cocktails o’clock
You didn’t think we’d forget all about the booze, did you? The Bird’s new menu includes nine more cocktails, with six exclusive drinks created by the local bartending team. For starters, Berry’d with a Secret should appeal to fans of the classic Pisco Sour. Made of St-Germain liqueur, fresh rosemary and lemon, this refreshing tipple is perfect for lazy Friday afternoons. Live for Love is another noteworthy concoction that doubles up as dessert: using chocolate infused bourbon, this indulgent cocktail comes with strawberries for a tangy twist.
