TGIF indeed because Restaurant Week’s back for its 10th edition! In other news, there’s a new French patisserie to check out, as well as a new themed café in Chinatown, but if you’ve always been a chicken wings-and-beer kind of foodie, then don’t pass up on the opportunity to visit the new kid on the block over at 313@Somerset.
#1 – Restaurant Week’s back!
Great news: In case you haven’t heard, Restaurant Week commences tomorrow (14 March). Go restaurant hopping and take advantage of the irresistible $25/$35 three-course lunch and dinner deals at the city’s hottest dining establishments (especially them fancy ones!)
#2 – Sweet treats at Les Délices
There’s a new French patisserie in the Kreta Ayer neighbourhood. Les Délices offers gorgeous treats like a sweet-tangy lemon strawberry rosette, a decadent five-layer Valrhona Guanaja chocolate and hazelnut mousse cake, and a small selection of choux puffs. Don’t mind a cup of tea to go with your desserts? There’s an array of English and Chinese teas to choose from.
Les Délices, #01-14, 333 Kreta Ayer Road, Singapore 080333, p. 6536 8087.
Chir Chir
#3 – Fried wings and beer at Chir Chir
It’s the best combo in the world – don’t you think? This new Korean joint specialises in just that. Try Chir Chir’s – pronounced chi-ruh chi-ruh – signature fried chicken (that’s fresh, not frozen, mind you), which is available in three flavours: crispy, garlicky, and spicy (our pick: garlicky). Not in the mood for something that sinful? There’s a variety of other dishes as well, from a honey grape salad to roasted chicken. Remember to order a round of Chir Cream Beer (topped with freshly whipped cream) to go with the tasty bites.
Chir Chir, #B3-04/05/06, 313@Somerset, 313 Orchard Road, Singapore 238895, p. 6509 8364.
#4 – New themed hangout: Monochrome Fusion Bistro
Everything’s black and white at this cool new minimalist café on South Bridge Road, including the grub (well, mostly). The menu features items inspired by both Western and Asian flavours, including a squid ink risotto served with your choice of mussels or prawns, a dark chocolate mint cake, and the bistro’s signature meatballs – a mishmash of different meats, coated with black sesame seeds and topped with bonito flakes and Japanese mayonnaise.
Monochrome Fusion Bistro, 291 South Bridge Road, Singapore 058836, p. 6221 1798.
Cocoa Colony
#5 – Chocolate overdose at Cocoa Colony
Chocolate freaks can go crazy at Cocoa Colony. Since it’s mainly a takeaway spot, grab some of their specialties to go, whether it’s a chocolate beverage (you can select your cocoa percentage), a peanut butter gelato drizzled with rich chocolate sauce, or a chocolate bar. No matter what you’re ordering, ask for the Amazonian Liquid Gold – available in milk, dark, and white chocolate, this premium chocolate sauce on tap is guaranteed to be a nice little addition to your pastries, gelatos and drinks.
Cocoa Colony, #01-06 Shaw Centre, 1 Scotts Road, Singapore 228208, p. 6235 8328.
