Mainstream movies? Nah. If you’re looking for something offbeat, the Singapore Cult and Underground Film Festival (SCUFF) is for you.
It’s a common activity in Singapore – going to the movies with friends to watch the latest blockbuster film, followed by late night supper, of course. But if mainstream films at the cinema are just too mainstream for you, here’s one you culture vultures might enjoy: the return Singapore Cult and Underground Film Festival (SCUFF) on 23-25 February.
Organised by The Society for Cult and Underground Movies (SCUM Cinema) in Singapore, the festival celebrates the offbeat films from diverse genres. From horror to humour, Bollywood to B-grade, cult to Kung Fu, monster to manga, nothing is too taboo for these guys. Best part, no blockbuster mainstream films here!
This year screening selections include an award-winning animated Chinese dark comedy film, Have A Nice Day which recently won the prestigious Golden Horse Award for Best Animation Feature for 2017, two highly acclaimed horror thrillers from Australia and USA (horror movie buffs, rejoice!), Killing Ground and Super Dark Times, and a free screening of a classic Yakuza gem from the 70s, Wandering Ginza Butterfly to end the weekend.
Now does that make you want to go to the movies?
