Start your engines – the F1 weekend is finally here! To celebrate, we have a bumper edition of bite-sized tidbits for foodies. New Mexican bigwigs, extra long happy hour, more cronut news, and a finger-licking good Thai buffet – yep, it’s going to be one good weekend.
Ole! Guzman y Gomez Mexican Taquería, Australia’s favourite fast-casual Mexican restaurant is stepping foot into Singapore for the first time. You’ll get all your usual Mexican favourites here, from burritos and tacos to quesadillas. Everything is made fresh and to-order, plus, diners are able to customise orders according to their dietary preferences. It doesn’t matter if you’re gluten free, lactose intolerant or vegetarian; they’ll be able to get you sorted.

What’s not to like about afternoon tea with a gorgeous view? Be surrounded by lush greenery while indulging in an assortment of sweets and savouries at Pollen ($38++ per person). From 27 Sep-13 Oct 2013, Olive Tree Restaurant will present ‘A Journey Into Thailand’, where you can get the very best of authentic Thai cuisine. With a wide array of classic Thai favourites included at the dinner buffet, like tom yum goong (spicy prawn soup infused with galangal and lemongrass), geang phed ped yang (spicy duck red curry), khao niaow ma muang (mango sticky rice), we guarantee you’ll be rolling out the door with satisfaction. If you love hawker food, make your way down to The Line for its ‘Hawker Heritage’ promotion on 21 and 28 September. Traditional hawker dishes like rojak, bak kut teh, popiah and kueh pi tee, as well as local beverages like Milo Dinosaur, teh tarik, and grass jelly with soya bean milk, will be on offer alongside the dinner buffet. A photo exhibition depicting old hawkers, an autograph session, as well as a talk about the history of hawker centres in Singapore will also be on display.

Bull & Butcher have come up a bunch of new promos to entice us. With what’s probably the longest happy hour on Orchard Road (from 1130am all the way till closing) this might just be our new watering hole. They also do brunch on the weekends! Chow down o their steak and egg benedict ($22), or the breakfast burrito ($19). If you’re up for a challenge, try the 500g challenge, where you choose 500g of meat and 3 sides and finish it all to get 500g of steak free on your next visit.

Suntec City most definitely does not lack of dining options, not when the Les Amis group has decided to open three new stores located along the concourse of the Fountain of Wealth. Nam Nam Noodle Bar sets up its third outlet, alongside the newly revamped Peperoni Pizzeria and brand new PACK’D.

The iconic Brunetti now does cronuts! A must try is the chocolate cronut, crisp pastry that’s a cross between a croissant and a donut with a creamy chocolate mousse filling. Yum!

The guys at Skinny Pizza have done it again. This time, they’ve come up with three new creations, the Satay Chicken Pizza, Dijon Chicken & Coriander Pesto Pizza, and the Moroccan Chicken Pizza. The latter two will only be available on 1 October 2013 (noo!). But don’t worry; something else that’s new on the menu is the Pizza Pop, a take on their usual crispy-thin creations that come with a puffy crust and topping with yummy fillings.

Yay for Canelé’s new collection of macarons that evoke the past with every bite. With four new flavours, peanut butter and jam, malt with condensed milk, tomato and basil, and curry, these macarons take bite sized dishes to a whole new level. Priced at $2.50 per piece and $8 for four, they’re only available for the month of October so be sure to get yours before they’re gone.

More sweet news ; gear up for the F1 weekend with cupcakes from Da Paolo Gastronomia. Specially created for the racing event, butter cupcakes are frosted with three layers of icing, in colours that are meant to represent 4 selected countries that have produced some of the world’s most famous drivers. Three of the cupcakes represent Germany (Sebastian Vettel), Spain (Fernando Alonso), and England (Lewis Hamilton), while the last one is Italy of course. What’s a F1 race without Ferrari? The cupcakes are priced at $4 per piece or $7.50 for two and will be in stores from 18-22 Sep 2013 at all Da Paolo Gastronomia outlets.
