It's no surprise that this hipster hood is home to a slew of cafes featuring brunchy burgers, artisanal teas, and even a Halal Swedish cafe
From vintage clothes to vinyl stores, Kampong Glam is a paradise for the painfully hip, so it’s no surprise that you’ll find a slew of Instagram-worthy cafes to check out in this neighbourhood. We’ve put together a list of our six favourite cafes – around Haji Lane, Arab Street, Bali Lane, and more – that we’re sure will perk you up whether you’re after a caffeine jolt or a sweet treat.
Working Title
Our two favourite B-words come together in Working Title’s burger-centric brunch menu! These burger experts put out fantastic brunch burgers that come packed with a grilled beef patty topped with turkey bacon, truffle scrambled eggs, crushed tater tots, caramelised onions, mild cheddar and a smoky barbecue sauce – talk about a brunch of champs! But if you prefer more traditional brunch offerings, opt for the Working Big Breakfast, or the smoked salmon with asparagus and scrambled eggs.
Working Title, 48 Arab Street, Singapore 199745. p. 8248 2841.
The Mad Sailors
If you’re a fan of the gourmet tacos from Afterwit, you’re in luck! Brought to you by the same people behind the popular Mexican taqueria, The Mad Sailors is where you can get your fill of classic British pub grub like fish and chips, and even the legendary chip butty. And tea lovers, you’re in for a treat here – these mad lads have got quite the selection of English teas on the menu from brands like Twinings, PG Tips and even a selection of cold brewed teas!
The Mad Sailors, 24 Haji Lane, Singapore 189217. p. 8248 2853. Open Mon-Thurs 11am-10pm, Fri 11am-11pm, Sat & Sun 10am-11pm.
Maison Ikkoku
This cafe/bar concept will get you sorted out for potent cuppas in the arvo and killer cocktails when the sun sets. Pop by in the day, and tuck into hearty portions of eggs Benedict, croque madame, and if you’re in the mood for a sweet brunch treat, you can’t go wrong with the decadent French toast with sea salt caramel.
Maison Ikkoku, 20 Kandahar Street, #02-01, Singapore 198885. p. 6294 0078. Open Sun-Thu 6pm-1am, Fri-Sat 6pm-2pm.
Fika Swedish Café & Bistro
No need to head to Ikea for your fix of Swedish meatballs – Fika actually does it better. Here, you’ll find a small but serviceable menu of Swedish classics like Toast Skagen, Pytt i Panna, and Tunnbrödsrulle. With its whitewashed walls and light-filled interiors, the homey, Halal café is a breath of fresh air amidst the myriad of Mediterranean eateries in Kampong Glam. Don’t leave before trying the much-raved about lingonberry cheesecake.
Fika Swedish Café & Bistro, 257 Beach Road, Singapore 199539. Open Sun-Thu 11am-10pm, Fri-Sat 11am-11pm.
Artistry
Nestled in a quiet corner of the Kampong Glam heritage district, Artistry aims to develop an intimate space for art and creative endeavours, while serving up cuppas of locally roasted Liberty Coffee, Western brunches (including some killer toasties), and sweet treats. Grab a table outdoors if you want to bring your furry four-legged friend along.

Stateland
If Asian fusion’s your jam, you’ll want to pay a visit to this cafe that whips up innovative dishes. On the menu, you’ll find comforting classics with a twist like the salmon pho in yuzu broth, the mentaiko pasta, and even a Korean fried chicken waffle. Sharing the space with Stateland is Brother Bird, so you’ll also be able to cool off with tasty treats like the cookie butter soft serve and Tokyo banana soft serve.
