The art of living well
To say the bedroom is our favourite part of the house is an understatement – who doesn’t wish they could lie in longer? But with more of us bringing work into the bedroom, it’s no longer become a place of rest. Luckily, we have some expert bedroom decor tips to inspire you to get your bedroom looking shipshape again. And yes, no work allowed!
Don’t be afraid of colour.
While the bedroom is a place of rest, a beige explosion is the last thing you want. Neutrals are a great foundation for incorporating great pops of colour. Soothing and common bedroom colours include lavender, green, and blue, but there’s no reason why you should avoid brighter colours if you’re so inclined. Cushions are the safest way to make a statement if you’re afraid to commit long-term to a bright wall colour.
You can have dark walls and furniture.
Just remember to balance that with reflective or metallic pieces like oversized mirrors!
Failsafe patterns: stripes and simple geometrics.
If you like loud prints and want your home to reflect your style, consider chevron, stripes, and even check. They can easily be used with other patterns to create a visually pleasing statement.
Storage is key.
And often hinges on how much space you have. Those with a larger bedroom can easily go for conventional dressers, but if you’re short on space, consider vertical storage or even under-bed storage. A footboard at the end of the bed that double as storage is another clever way to maximize space.

Think alternative.
Bedside tables are a must for most of us, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get creative with your options. Whether you want a multi-functional piece that’s both a magazine rack and a table, a stool that doubles as a table, a stack of vintage suitcases, or even a single chest, remember that a bedside table should hold the key to some of your storage needs. Short on space? Try a wall-mounted shelf instead.
Don’t forget the textures.
At the end of the day, a restful place doesn’t mean a boring one. To keep your bedroom visually engaging, remember to layer your textures. This doesn’t just mean matte and shiny, think soft throws and cushions, glass and metallic surfaces. Think about adding textures on your walls and floors with wallpaper and soft rugs. Just remember to edit your colours or you’ll end up with a busy, overwhelming space.
Lighting
To determine what kind of lighting you’ll need, think about their function. Those who read before bed should have directed lighting on hand. If you’re dressing up your vanity with a lamp, you’ll need something brighter. If you don’t have floor or table space, consider a wall sconce for bedside reading. A classic alternative is to have identical table lamps on nightstands to provide good symmetry and balance to the room. Those who read should look at lamps with swing arms for easy, directed lighting. For ambient lighting, an easy expert tip is to have a dimmer installed for lamps or even overhead lighting.
