Sometimes we makeup junkies just want to brighten up our makeup drawers, right? For me, it almost always means adding to my Chanel makeup collection, and the new Spring Summer 2018 Neapolis New City is one collection that will definitely be at the top of my shopping list
Naples may not be at the top of your travel wish list, but after seeing the fabulous colours in the new Chanel Spring Summer 2018 Makeup Collection: Neapolis New City, I might well be researching how much it costs to get there for my next holiday.
Chanel’s Global Creative Makeup and Colour Designer Lucia Pica was born in Naples and returned to her roots to create this new makeup collection; it provided the “inspiration for colors, moods and techniques that offer a warm, rich and unexpectedly Mediterranean approach for the house – at once antique and utterly contemporary” she says. The city’s name comes from Neapolis, or ‘New City’, but it’s the ‘old city’ legend of Parthenope, the siren whose body was washed up on the shores of where the ‘Old City’ stood that links it more to women and beauty. Her story of temptation, female power and beauty has seeped into the culture of this Italian city.
The colours of the city, from the natural world that includes the volcanic landscape of Vesuvius to the waters of the bay, to the soft colours of the famous frescoes in Villa Poppaea in Oplontis and the gold of Baroque churches, are the source of the inspiration for this new Chanel makeup collection, and you’ll be surprised by how wearable the are.
Make the most of your eyes with the new Chanel Neapolis Makeup collection
The core of this new makeup collection from Chanel is the limited edition Les 9 Ombres Palette Édition No.1: Affresco, an eyeshadow palette that has a mix of both muted and brighter shades with the main focus on greens that are surprisingly wearable. All of the colours are inspired by Naples – a bright green, a faded grey-green, a luminous peachy beige, a mink brown, bright gold and rusty-red brown – and come in a variety of finishes too, matte, satin and high-shine, so you’re sure to get a lot of use out of the palette.
For those of you who are converts to Chanel’s cream eyeshadows, the Ombre Première Crème in an interesting shade Verderame, a dusty grey-green with a soft metalic sheen. This looks great under the brighter shades of the Les 9 Ombres palette – the first time Chanel can done an eyeshadow palette of nine colours by the way. To finish off your look, Chanel has created Mascara Dimensions in Nero Metallo, an amazingly beautiful metallic blue-green, and one of the brand’s classic, most popular eyeliner pencil the Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Nero Vulcanico – an fabulous deep green-blue shade inspired by the ash of the volcano, and a totally stunning bright jade green called Mare-Chiaro. Oooh … I need to buy everything!
If lips are your thing, you must get the new Chanel Poudre À Lèvres lipstick
This new lip product from Chanel, the Poudre À Lèvres, is an innovative new way to apply colour on your lips. It’s a ‘lip powder’. You first apply a clear lip balm to your lips with your fingers, then you pat on the coloured powder using one of the two applicators to get a somewhat blurred effect. There are three different shades, Rosso Pompeiano, a bright poppy; Rosso Parthenope, an intense red, and Rosa Tempera, a soft pink.
But that’s not all, there are 10 different types of lip colours you can choose from including the Rouge Allure and Rouge Allure Velvet lipsticks in bright poppy and raspberry, or shiny Rouge Coco Gloss in shades like Parthenope, a nude peachy caramel and Aphrodite, a watery baby blue that can be worn alone or layered over brighter colour. There there is the Rouge Allure Ink in Entusiasta, a matte orange, or Eterea, a peach pink.
Go bright or go home with fun nail colours from Chanel
When it come to nail colours, Chanel is iconic. The first to create a true black nail lacquer and the first true nude, plus the first greige. This time Chanel nail varnishes come in shades like Nuvola Rosa, a pastel pink cloud colour, Verde Pastello, a delicate mint green, Arancio Vibrante is a bright orange and Giallo Napoli is a bright Naples yellow which refers to the famous paint colour.
The new Chanel Spring Summer 2018 Makeup Collection: Neapolis New City is available from 28 December, 2017, at all Chanel Fragrance and Beauty boutiques and from 5 January, 2018, at all Chanel Fragrance and Beauty counters.
