Odette, Burnt Ends, Tippling Club and Restaurant Andre are the big winners in this year’s list
Sure, there are countless great restaurants in Asia – but not many are extraordinary. The judges of The Diner Club Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy have spoken once again, following the awards ceremony that took place in Bangkok’s W Hotel last night. While some fine dining restaurants from Singapore slipped outta the coveted list (see last year’s results), one made its debut in a humongous way, bringing the total number of Red Dot restos represented to nine.
The triumphant newcomer? None other than Julien Royer’s Odette at #9 – see our Hot 50 Tables review to get in on the hype – which also won the Highest New Entry Award. André Chiang’s eponymous Restaurant André retains its status as Singapore’s champ, climbing up one spot to #2, with Burnt Ends grilling the competition by jumping four places to #10 – Chef Dave Pynt also bagged the Chefs’ Choice Award.
Despite Ignatius Chan’s Iggy’s and Willin Low’s Wild Rocket being bumped out of this year’s top 50, other local high-fliers remained – Les Amis (#16), Waku Ghin (#20), Corner House (#23), Jaan (#42), and Shinji by Kanesaka (#44). While all of these slid downwards, it’s worth noting that Tippling Club, instead, rose four spots to #27 – check out our humorous interview we did with Chef Ryan Clift.
