Review: Four Cows Farm
Skincare so safe you can eat it isn’t actually something we come across very often (or actually advocate doing), but for sensitive and dry skin sufferers, we think we’ve found a cure that works!
Four Cow Farms is a family-run business that was borne out of loving necessity. The story begins with a grandmother who wanted to make creams and balms that were as effective and natural as possible for her two grandchildren (one of whom was born with eczema). Fast forward a few years where the entire family is now involved in producing handcrafted natural skincare products from their farm in the Blackall Mountain Range of South East Queensland (which runs on 100% green energy).
Now we’ve been onboard the natural skincare train a while now, but we get the usual suspicions: natural products smell funny; the soaps and shampoos don’t lather, their texture isn’t what you’re normally used to.
Think of Four Cow Farms as easing into a natural skincare routine. Nothing smells shockingly bad and the textures are comfortingly creamy. Their products are all made from premium food-grade ingredients, sans nasties (naturally!) and include everything from nappy cream and bod washes to balms that tackle eczema.
We particularly like their baby wash (also suitable for adults with dry/ sensitive skin), made from premium cold-press extra virgin olive oil. It’s so moisturizing that you don’t feel the need to moisturize after bathing! With that said, we also really like their baby lotion, which is intensely effective, absorbs quickly, and is one of the most lightweight moisturizers we’ve ever used. Especially great to have on hand if you’re travelling to dryer climates and find yourself needing to moisturize all the time.
The baby oil is worth a mention – especially for those who have now switched to beauty oils. This one is a blend of Pure Cold Pressed Apricot Kernel, Macadamia and Sweet Almond Extra Virgin Oils with calming Organic Chamomile and soothing Rosemary. A little goes an incredibly long way! Great for body, but for those using it on your face, make sure to use only 2-3 drops daily first to avoid potential breakouts. Our only gripe with this is that the bottle nozzle makes it hard to pour out small amounts, so if you have a dropper on hand, use that instead. (Note: ants are attracted to sweet almond oil, so to avoid having an ant issue, make sure to wash your bottle after use.)
We found the Calendula Remedy excellent and highly effective in combating eczema-prone skin. We only had to use it twice a day for 2 weeks to clear up a nasty bout of eczema, which is heaps better than using over-the-counter hydrocortisone to no end.
Check out the Four Cow Farms for more info on their products. We recommend the starter kit if you’re looking to sample products.
