How did you feel when you last experienced losing someone (or something)? Loss is an emotion we all experience, and yet, the human spirit has a tendency to reach out or create something from what is no longer there. And in this process of finding or creating, we discover hope.
Within this theme of “Lost & Found”, Esplanade stages four productions for The Studios 2020, exploring the theme of what is lost and found through the journey of life. Supporting local artists in international collaborations, co-productions and restagings, the series offers a space for dialogue and reflection for both artist and audience. With each work, artistic boundaries are challenged and pushed to the limit as personal and relatable issues are brought to the forefront, resulting in creations that connect with and inspire viewers.
The four upcoming productions are:
1. Dragon Ladies Don’t Weep by Margaret Leng Tan: A collaboration between Singaporean and Australian artists that touches on how music was both Tan’s passion and refuge.
2. Lost Cinema 20/20 by Brian Gothong Tan: An exploration of the rich visual culture of films to look at what defines our shared subconscious.
3. Punggah, written by Johnny Jon Jon: A story of personal struggles around reconciliation and redemption, told by those dealing with death.
4. The Heart Comes to Mind, written by Lucas Ho: A poignant exploration into the struggles of a father and a daughter who lost their wife and mother.
