8 new restaurants in Singapore
This month, we’ve got the scoop on a new romantic spot at Rochester Park, Honey fave Jigger and Pony’s exciting new venture, and way more. Bon appétit!
1 Una
Fans of the now-defunct Bomba Paella Bar will be stoked to know that Chef Jean-Phillipe Patruno has returned to the dining scene with 1 Una – a new fine dining restaurant with a small, carefully curated menu – just over 20 dishes – that has a strong focus on the rich cuisines of Southern Europe (France, Italy, and Spain). Nestled in Rochester Park, you’ll dine in the intimate, romantic setting of an iconic British colonial bungalow, and even choose to go alfresco and soak in the lush surrounding greenery.
1 Una, 1 Rochester Park Singapore, Singapore 139212, p. 6773 0070. Open daily 6-11pm.
Buttero
Can Tras Street get any cooler? This new kid on the block is bringing hearty, easy-eating Italian fare to this already bustling foodie hotspot. The raw, gritty interiors will definitely catch your eye – from the weathered brick walls to the splashes of street art (designed by renowned Belgian street artist Caratoes) on it. Throw in cool vinyl tunes from Executive Chef Logan Campbell’s own prized collection and a centre-piece grand piano for Friday night blues sessions? We bet this is where all the cool kids are going to start hanging out.
Buttero, 54 Tras Street, Singapore 078993, p. 6438 7737. Open Mon-Sat 12-3pm and 6pm-till late.
Le Comptoir
Finally, someone heard our plea for authentic French crepes on the island! The good folk at Le Comptoir, who brought us the lovely O-Batignolles bistro along Club Street, combine French elegance and Singapore flair for their new French creperie and cocktail bar – Le Comptoir. Grab a coffee and a crepe along the river in the afternoon, or pop by after work for a glass of vino or cocktail as the bistro transforms into a bar with live DJ sets till 2am. Besides classic creations, which focus on ham and cheese, you should also try their innovative fusion crepes like ‘Khao San Road’, ‘Vietnam Calling’, and ‘Morning Texas’,
Le Comptoir, 79 Circular Road, Singapore 049433, 6534 7645. Open Mon-Tue 11-12am, Wed-Sat 11-2am.
Xperience
Sofitel So Singapore’s signature restaurant and bar is slated to bring a one-of-a-kind culinary journey for the senses right into the heart of the CBD. Helming the kitchen will be Singapore’s first female hotel executive chef – Chef Anne-Cecile Degenne – and her expert team. A very unique dining concept will be introduced, where diners will design their own customized menu based on their desired culinary experiences – like crunchy, juicy, smoky, creamy, silky, spicy and zesty – and choose portion sizes – XS for tasting, XM for a personal size, and XL for sharing. Complemented with an extensive cocktail and wine menu, and live tunes from resident DJs, Xperience is set to be a vibey new space that’s perfect for gourmands seeking a pampering dining experience.
Xperience, 35 Robinson Road Singapore 068876, p. 6701 6800.
Ujong
Former Wok & Barrel chef-owner Madam Shen Tan is back with her signature hawker fare with a modern twist at Ujong – which means ‘island at the end of the peninsula’. Befitting the rich heritage of Raffles Hotel, you’ll want to try Ujong’s flavourful claypot rice with five spice pork, prawn flavoured fine noodles with Indo Mee inspired dressing of chilli, garlic, and onion, and the innovative bak chor mee pasta. Save some space for dessert – we especially like the puloh hitam pudding with gula melaka butterscotch and coconut ice cream!
Ujong, Raffles Hotel Arcade, 328 North Bridge Road, #01-10, Singapore 188719, p. 6635 6502. Open Mon-Fri 8am-10pm, Sat-Sun 10am-10pm.
Outpost Bar & Bistro
The latest live music venue from nightlife veteran Michael Chng, Outpost Bar & Bistro, is a cozy new restaurant-bar at the revamped St James Power Station. Shaping up to be a launch pad for homegrown talents, here’s the place to hit if you’re hoping to check out some fresh local sounds, knock back a drink or two (you’ll be spoilt for choice with a drinks menu of over 100 boozy beverages), and munch on some classic bar bites like Outpost trio mini burgers, homemade crab cakes, and hand-stretched pizzas.
Outpost Bar & Bistro, 3 Sentosa Gateway, St James Power Station, #01-11, Singapore 098544. Open Mon-Tue 6pm-2am, Wed 6pm-3am, Thu 6pm-2am, Fri-Sat 6pm-4am, Sun 6pm-3am.
D’Bell
Sensing a lack of classy restaurants with excellent Indian food and music, India-based Carnival Group decided to bring their hugely-successful high-end rest-o-lounge concept from Mumbai to Singapore. If you love your Indian, here’s definitely the place to go – just kick back in the lavish lounge space over a tantalizing spread of authentic Indian cuisine and hand-crafted cocktails.
D’Bell, 43 North Canal Road, Singapore 059299, p. 6536 4046. Open Mon-Thu 1130am-230pm and 6-11pm, Fri 1130am-230pm and 6pm-12am, Sat 6pm-12am.
Sugarhall
We’re so excited about this new casual restaurant-bar opened by the owners of neighbouring bespoke cocktail bar Jigger & Pony (psst…our office is just a street away!). Promising to be a more fun, laid-back dining space, Sugarhall is a great place for a round of drinks (we were impressed by the rum-focused cocktail menu, with over 50 labels on offer) and some hearty grilled bar grub. Notable dishes include the wallet-friendly (below $35) Cape Grim hanger steak and rib-eye steak, prepared with grass-fed, antibiotic-free beef from Cape Grim, Australia and Maori Lake farms in New Zealand.
Sugarhall, 102 Amoy Street, Singapore 069922, p. 9732 5607. Open Mon-Sat 6pm-12am.
Becasse
A little birdy told us that high-end artisan patisserie Becasse will be expanding beyond ION Orchard to bring their iconic dose of French dining to Dempsey Hill. Here’s where you can soak in classic European elegance and an unprecedented range of gastronomical delights. You heard it here first folks!
