1855 The Bottle Shop’s Wine & Whisky Week is back with Singapore’s most indulgent tasting line-up of exclusive and boutique labels. This is the ultimate try-before-you-buy wine and whisky experience, where brilliant, boundary-pushing new-world wines rub shoulders with grand old Bordeaux classics with fantastic bottle age and limited-edition Scotches. And did we mention it’s free? We’re talking free entry and some 100 wines and whiskies to dip into for free…
Honeycombers took one for the team and tasted through the offering, and slightly dusty recollection of highlights includes:
Sophia 2013 (New Zealand, Hawke’s Bay), a gutsy new-world Bordeaux with a significant risk that the bottle you open while cooking might be empty by the time you sit down to eat. You’ve been warned.
Château Gruaud Larose 1998 (France, Bordeaux, Left Bank-St Julien), a rare an extraordinary vintage to have the luxury of tasting, although we’d highly recommend bringing some Iberico Jamon shavings or a rare steak. This is food-pairing territory.
La Piu Belle 2011 (Chile, Cachapoal Valley), a punchy cab sav blend with a huge hit of grassy, herbaceous oak; this is a challenging and fantastically interesting wine to taste and snap up if it floats your boat.
Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ghost and Rare, so called because some of the blended whiskies come from distilleries that have since closed down. Tragically divine.
The fifth edition of 1855 The Bottle Shop’s Wine & Whisky Week runs 16 to 27 May at Suntec City from 11am to 10pm daily.
