Looking for romantic or artsy things to do outdoors in Singapore? Check out this annual alfresco movie event that lets you bring your own food and picnic, while dishing out alcohol and live music
Cinemas in Singapore are aplenty, and all you arthouse film buffs are probably well aware of The Projector hidden in Golden Mile Tower. But let’s face it: nothing’s more romantic than an alfresco movie experience with your own private picnic and bottles of wine on hand. Coming soon to a park near you – the return of Singapore’s premier, open-air cinema event, Films At The Fort.
Brought to you by the promoters who organised Tanjong Beach’s Sunset Cinema, the fifth edition of the outdoor film festival will screen 15 films from 3 to 20 August – and it’s quite the assortment they’ve put together. From Oscar-nominated dramas like “Moonlight” and action-comedies like “Baywatch”, to feel-good classics like “Life Is Beautiful” and old-school musicals like “Grease”; this marathon of films appeals to film-lovers of all ages. And if you missed “Get Out” in the cinemas, watch it here to get rid of your #FOMO.
But what’s an open-air cinema without a picnic, right? Not only can attendees eat on the event grounds, they’re allowed to bring their own picnic food too – this doesn’t apply to alcohol, though. If your picnic-prepping skills are non-existent, you can always stock up on snacks from The Providore’s on-site kitchen, and get your booze fix with the festival bar’s selection of wines and ciders. And with DJs and instrumentalists busting out tunes, you won’t even be bored in the queue.
Oh, and you might wanna start getting your tickets… Right. Now.
Films At The Fort 2017, 3-20 August, gates open at 5pm and films begin at 7.30pm, Fort Canning Park, River Valley Road, Singapore 179037. For more information on films, film dates and tickets, visit the official website.
