Brimming with over 500 international and local breweries for beer and cider – as well as live music, beer yoga, and food stalls – the annual beer festival gets a toast from us
I don’t need any particular reason to down a pint of beer, but if there’s one celebration that absolutely calls for it, it’s Beerfest Asia. Now in its ninth year, Beerfest Asia marks an occasion where everyone makes a toast to beer, with a consistently stuffed showcase of international and local breweries, coupled with a medley of activities to cater to the fuelled-up restlessness that ensues.
One big surprise is that this is the first time Beerfest Asia is held at Marina Bay Cruise Centre, an air-conditioned 8,000-square feet space that will make sure you don’t turn into a sweaty mess. Filling up this gargantuan hall will be over 500 selections of beers and ciders (over a hundred make their debut this year), including homegrown brews from Archipelago Brewery, The 1925 Brewing Co., Brewlander & Co and more. Think that knowledge is power? Don’t just open your eyes (and palates) to all these different brews; learn how to make your own DIY brew with Beerfest Asia’s daily beer workshops, and maybe you’ll have your own booth at Beerfest Asia someday.
So what do you do once you’re all boozed up and ready to paint the town red? Shake and shimmy to the festival’s roster of over 30 live acts. Yell along to Guns N’ Roses anthems with authentic tribute bands, and do the funky chicken to house, tech-house and disco tunes from local selectors like Brendon P, KFC and Zig Zach.
But if you prefer to get active without revealing your two left feet, partake in the bizarre activity of Beer Yoga (yes, it’s a thing) which incorporates beer bottles into yoga poses, or show off your bouncing skills in the beer pong area. Whatever you fancy, let’s just all honest about one thing at Beerfest Asia – you’re not gonna stop at one drink.
