If you’re a wrestling fan who grew up watching The Rock kick butt, this is one major sports event you don’t wanna miss. Can you dig it?
Wanna get ready to rumble? If you grew up watching these hulking gladiators and high-flying daredevils slamming and ramming into each other on TV, then you might wanna start warming up for this night of sports entertainment. Come 28 June, the larger-than-life superstars of WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) return to Singapore to let bodies hit the floor, in a showcase of heartstopping manoeuvres, theatrical techniques and unparalleled charisma. And in case you still need more context for how monstrously huge this company is, WWE is the entity that produced global stars like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, John Cena, and Hulk Hogan.
Except, the action you’re gonna be seeing on this tour – Singapore is the only Southeast Asian stop – goes beyond the silver screen. Spread across eight distinctive matches, including a title match for the prestigious Intercontinental Championship, the cream of the crop of WWE superstars will battle it out to score that pinfall of one-two-three.
Who should you watch out for? My money’s all on the hard-hitting strong style of Samoa Joe (the fastest, big-sized wrestler you’ll ever see), the feisty ferocity of Sasha Banks, the razor-sharp offence of Finn Balor, the unorthodox aggression of Seth Rollins, and the perilous submissions of Asuka. And hey, even if you’re not a fan of anyone, you’ll be a convert in no time once you enter the arena – just let the chants of the crowd do all the work; trust me on this.
WWE Live Singapore, 28 June, 7.30pm, Singapore Indoor Stadium, 2 Stadium Walk, Singapore 397691, p. 3158 7888. Tickets available at S$48, S$88, S$108, S$148, S$348 and S$488 from this website.
