New places to drink cocktails, whisky, and craft beer in the CBD, Haji Lane, Tanjong Pagar, and even the sleepy suburb of Seletar
Looking for a new joint to toast to the new year? If you’re in the mood to celebrate surviving 2016 or spread the Christmas cheer with your mates, here’re five new places for you to get your drink on. And this time, we’ve got a couple of bars that also serve up some tasty nosh to go with your tipples.
Monti
Taking over the space occupied by Catlunya is this swish Italian joint boasting full-length windows and a spectacular view of the Marina Bay area. While ostensibly a restaurant, Monti offers a selection of signature cocktails that’ll make a fine end to your dining experience. Sip on creative concoctions like the signature Mr. Monti – a tonic highball that makes use of fresh Italian herbs, or perhaps the sexy Monti-Rita that puts and Italian spin on the classic margarita.
Monti, 82 Collyer Quay, Singapore 049213. p. 6535 0724.
Little Bastard
You’re going to have to do a little legwork before sitting down to a meal at this quirky adults-only bar-restaurant. Head to 115 King George’s Avenue, and you’ll have to search around a little for an unassuming secret staircase that leads up to the industrial-themed bar. On the menu are unorthodox modern cocktails like the sous-vide lemon barley gin cocktail, cookie martini, the refreshing yuzu mojito, and the complex Earl Grey Gin Tonic with infused gin and fresh basil.
Little Bastard, 115 King George’s Avenue, Singapore 208561. p. 8459 9893. Open Tue-Sat 6pm-12am. Closed Sun-Mon.
Good Luck Beerhouse
On the hunt for craft beer in the hip hood of Haji Lane? The trendy area’s first and only craft beer bar has opened a cosy little space, where you can enjoy all manner of rarities from spicy saisons to hoppy IPAs. The bottle selection here is extensive, but if you prefer your beer from a tap, the bar has eight rotating selections available on draft.
Good Luck Beerhouse, 9 Haji Lane, Singapore 189202. Open Mon-Sat 4pm-12am. Closed on Mon.
The Library
One of Singapore’s pioneering speakeasies has just relaunched and will incorporate its neighbouring restaurant, The Study, into its menu. For the first time since its opening, the drinks menu has been revamped, introducing fun inventive cocktails sorted into three categories – Strong & Dangerous, Sexy & Tropical, and Crazy & Sophisticated. For a limited time, the bar will be collaborating with Eu Yan Sang and offering cocktails that take advantage of TCM (traditional Chinese Medicine) herbs and ingredients. Thanks to the addition of the restaurant space, you can expect Asian-inspired street food with a modern twist. For the regulars, don’t worry; selected favourites from the previous drinks menu will still be available too.
The Library, 47-49 Keong Saik Road, Singapore 089151. p. 6221 8338. Open Mon-Sat 6pm-1am. Closed on Sun.
Young’s Bar and Restaurant
As a denizen of the sleepy suburb of Seletar, I’m pretty thrilled to see this new modern European bar restaurant open up in the area. The rustic space employs both and indoor and outdoor dining areas to take advantage of Seletar’s lush greenery. The bar offers a range of classic IBA cocktails as well as signature creations like the blackberry-flavoured Pretty Boy Floyd, the creamy Bonnie and Clyde, as well as the rather unorthodox wine and whisky cocktail, the Machine Gun Kelly.
