Attention shoppers! Amazon is set to launch in Singapore in 2017. We list five reasons why we're excited for the retail giant's expansion here
Steady yourselves for the best year-end news, online shoppers: Amazon is coming to Singapore! That’s right, the American retail behemoth is expanding to Southeast Asia in 2017, and our sunny city is the golden gateway to a limitless world of online shopping. We dish out five reasons why we can’t wait for its launch here.
1) More grocery options
Gone are the days of using your precious weekends to stock up on groceries. From the comforts of your bed, you’ll be striking items off your grocery lists in record time. And if you’ve got specific dietary needs – organic, cruelty-free, kosher, you name it – you’ll find a mind-boggling range of food here, unlike the limited selection found in local supermarkets or online grocers.
2) Re(Kindle) your love for reading
We know you’ve been eyeing a kindle for the longest time, but those hefty shipping fees can quickly extinguish any desire to e-read. Amazon carries a range of Kindles and an absolutely colossal (no exaggeration here!) array of e-books at affordable prices. Yep, we’re already drooling at the thought of cosy nights in.
3) A boundless world of beauty
On trips abroad, we constantly find ourselves fawning at the dirt-cheap makeup section in drugstores, or dismaying over luxury beauty products we’ll never see on store shelves here. Those days will be soon over, fellow makeup f(r)iends. With Amazon, those must-have Covergirl mascaras, plush makeup brush sets (Real Techniques should be first on your list) and even hard-to-find K-beauty skincare serums will be yours to have.
4) Tech toys galore
Steady yourselves, lads (and ladies). The tech toys of your heart’s desire will soon be in your hands. Just some things off our lust list: the spiffy new smart watch, Oculus Rift VR headsets, one-of-a-kind hoverboards and new audio accessories.
5) Affordable (even free shipping)
Regular Amazon shoppers may already be aware of this: Currently, only selected items are available for free shipping if sold by the official site and if the total order surpasses 125 USD. But with the new Singapore-based site, expect affordable shipping and even free delivery if you sign up with Amazon Prime (psst… it’s got tonnes of other perks besides free, fast delivery). While this service hasn’t been officially confirmed yet for the Southeast Asian site, we’re holding out hope since it’s just been launched in China. *prays to retail Gods*
The Southeast Asian Amazon site is set to launch in Singapore in early 2017. More details to be announced later.
