Found your dream Maldives resort? Here are five FAQs from Lightfoot Travel to ponder on before confirming your trip.
When is the best time to visit Maldives?
Any time is a good time! Given that the country spreads over 90,000km, every island in the Maldives has its own microclimate. If you are looking to do a particular activity such as surfing, scuba diving for certain species, it’s best to speak to a Lightfoot Travel Designer to find out which resorts suit your preferences.
What is half-board and do I need it?
A half-board is a meal plan that includes breakfast and dinner, without alcoholic beverages. We usually tell our clients to fill up on a heavy breakfast, have a light snack for lunch, and quell all hunger pangs at dinner. It’s a lazy holiday, so you usually don’t need a lot of fuel. If you want lunch included, opt for a full board.

Can I bring my own alcohol?
Unfortunately not, the Maldives is a Muslim country and your bags will be checked upon arrival. If you have bought liquor, beer and related items containing alcohol from a duty free shop while en route to the Maldives, these products must be bonded in the airport’s customs department upon arrival.
How much money should I bring and in what currency?
All you should really need is your credit card. Any incidentals (alcoholic drinks, chargeable activities, etc) are settled on your bill when checking out.
What’s the tipping policy?
We recommend tipping in a lump sum upon checkout. That being said, tipping individual persons definitely won’t be frowned upon.
Do I need a visa to visit the Maldives?
No, tourists from all countries are granted a free 30-day visa upon arrival. However, all visitors need to have a valid passport.
