Put an extra spark on your date with these fun activities for Valentine’s Day.
The classic dinner-and-a-movie date with your S.O can be fun, but you have to admit that weeks, months or even years of doing just that, does get a bit stale at some point. We’ve heard couples – including ourselves, to be honest – complaining about their boring routines, and sometimes it can feel like there are not enough activities for couples to do in Jakarta. But we have good news for you, because when you actually look around, there’s actually plenty! Whether you’re looking for a cool idea for a regular weekend date or to celebrate the upcoming Valentine’s Day, we’ve rounded up fun and unique activities for a date you both will never forget.
Go museum and gallery hopping
Whether you’re both history buffs or are just curious about Indonesia’s rich heritage, why not try museum hopping for a fun day out with your partner? If you don’t know where to begin, start from Medan Merdeka and Kota Tua in Central Jakarta, where you can find almost 30 museums such as Jakarta Planetarium, National Museum of Indonesia, Museum Sumpah Pemuda, Bank Indonesia Museum and Wayang Museum. More into contemporary arts? Then you definitely have to put the world-class Museum MACAN in West Jakarta on your list. There are also lots of private art galleries you can visit from Edwin’s Gallery and RUCI Art Space, to Akili Museum of Art and Dia.lo.gue Artspace.
Go canoeing at the Mangrove Nature Park
If you’re a hopeless romantic, we’re sure The Notebook is one of your favourite movies. The scene where Noah takes Allie on a canoe ride through the lake full of swans gets us every time. If you want a The Notebook moment for yourself, well, lucky for you you can do just that at the Mangrove Nature Park. Well, maybe minus all the swans. Located at Pantai Indah Kapuk, this place is surrounded by a lush green scenery with lots of beautiful spots to take pictures, and there are even villas and a campground where you can camp out under the stars!

Go animal watching
Are you a couple with special affinity for animals? Then a date to the zoo or the aquarium will totally make your day! Take a drive up to Taman Safari in Bogor and get up close with your favourite animals from inside the car. Don’t forget to check out the Safari’s new Istana Panda area, which has become the house of two new pandas from China. And if the long drive sounds quite troublesome for you, you can instead choose to go to Ragunan in East Jakarta, Seaworld in North Jakarta, or the fairly new Jakarta Aquarium at Neo Soho in West Jakarta. Pssstt.. They even have a café beside the aquarium where you can feed the penguins!
Have a picnic and ride a tandem bicycle at Allianz Ecopark
In the middle of the concrete jungle in Jakarta, there are still some parts of the city where you can still enjoy nature, and one of them is at Allianz Ecopark in Ancol. At this ocean-themed waterfront park, you can have a picnic under the tree and hire a tandem bike for a refreshing ride around the area. You can even play paintball and have some adventure at their outbound adventure park!

Jump at the trampoline park
You may not be kids anymore by now, but if both of you are still kids at heart, you’d love to have a date here, where you can do nothing but jump and have fun. Lucky for you, there are now more and more trampoline parks opening in the city, from Amped Trampoline Park and Bounce Street Asia in Kelapa Gading to Houbii Urban Adventure Park in Pondok Indah, where you can play at their ninja obstacle course, indoor climbing and dunk arenas. Another plus point is that it also counts as exercising, so you’ll burn those calories too as a bonus!
Swim at the waterfall in Sentul
Take an hour and a half drive to the south of Jakarta and you’ll find Sentul Paradise Park, where you can splash around at the beautiful Bidadari Waterfall and the pools. Not only that, you can also hike, have a picnic, ride on a boat and even play flying fox if you’d like to be more adventurous!

Go on a day trip to Pulau Seribu
Who says you have to spend several days to go all the way to Bali to have a memorable beach getaway? If you only have a day to spare, take a day trip to Pulau Seribu. Despite being just a speed boat ride away from Jakarta, some of the islands still have clear pristine waters. The best ones to visit are Pulau Macan, H Island, Pulau Harapan, and Pulau Sepa, where you can paddle board, kayak, snorkel and simply swim at the beach. A lot of local tour providers also provide free lunch, and the price typically includes the return boat fee from either Marina Ancol or Muara Angke to the island.
Solve challenges at the escape room
If you want to test out your compatibility in solving problems together, trying out the escape room game is a must! There are now lots of escape rooms available in Jakarta like Xcape Indonesia, Locked Escape Game, Escape Hunt and many more, but the most popular one (and the scariest, we bet) got to be Pandora Experience, which has several locations at Puri Indah, Kelapa Gading, Mall Ciputra and Baywalk Mall. The two of you can also compete to see who’s smarter in solving puzzles and riddles and obviously who’s more of a scaredy cat, because some of them have horror themes that will definitely raise your adrenaline levels. Depending on the difficulty of your chosen game, typically you will be given around two hours inside the room, where you’ll have to find clues to unlock the door to the next rooms. At some escape rooms, there are even staffs who dress up as the ghosts, making it feel like you are inside a haunted house.
