Bali has long been the benchmark for luxury hospitality. Now, the world’s most trusted guide has made it official, with MICHELIN Keys debuting in Indonesia and Bali.
Big news for Bali’s luxury travel scene: the new global benchmark for exceptional hotels – MICHELIN Keys – has officially launched in Indonesia.
You’ve probably heard of MICHELIN Stars, AKA the gold standard for restaurants around the world. Well, the same prestigious guide has expanded into hospitality, awarding MICHELIN Keys to the world’s most outstanding hotels and resorts. Think of it as the hotel world’s equivalent of a Michelin Star, but focused on design, service, sustainability, and soul.
A total of 33 hotels and resorts across Indonesia received the inaugural MICHELIN Keys, and Bali dominates with more than half of the country’s top-rated stays.
So, what are MICHELIN keys?
MICHELIN Keys are the new, sought-after recognition from the world-renowned MICHELIN Guide, spotlighting exceptional stays from around the world. According to the MICHELIN Guide: “The same way the MICHELIN Star recognizes restaurants for outstanding cooking, the MICHELIN Key recognizes hotels for outstanding stays.”
And to judge a hotel’s worthiness, each hotel is evaluated by MICHELIN’s inspectors, according to five key pillars:
- Design: architectural and interior excellence
- Service: quality, consistency, and guest experience
- Atmosphere: the hotel’s personality and charm
- Value: the experience relative to price
- Connection: to the local culture, environment, and community
The scale is simple but prestigious:
- 1 MICHELIN Key = A very special stay
- 2 MICHELIN Keys = An exceptional stay
- 3 MICHELIN Keys = A truly extraordinary stay
With this new system, we finally have a trusted way to identify hotels that offer more than just luxury, but rather, places that deliver a true sense of place, character, and connection.
