For the holy month of Ramadan, artisan jewellery brand John Hardy has launched a very special Golden Hour capsule collection to amp up your look for the big Eid holiday.
If, like us, you’re a forever-fan of John Hardy, then this iconic jewellery brand needs no introduction. Established right here in Bali in 1975, John Hardy is an artisan collective that revolves around three core values: artisanship, community and sustainability – all while drawing inspiration from the island’s time-honoured traditions, culture and breathtaking nature.
Best known for its hand-crafted, chain-weaved jewellery that’s designed to preserve the island’s jewellery-making traditions (and to symbolise the interlinked past, present and future), the meticulous craftsmanship of this Bali-born jewellery line is what makes its collections so precious. John Hardy’s iconic Classic Chain is a perfect example if this. It honours the traditional Balinese chain-weaving technique, handcrafted by a community of all-female artisans – just one of the brand’s many commitments to women empowerment and other honourable causes.
So, to commemorate the holy month Ramadan, John Hardy has launched a very special Golden Hour capsule collection that encapsulates all that the brand is about. The collection uses 100% reclaimed 18k gold for each piece (further cementing the brand’s commitment to sustainable practices), the designs are breathtaking nods to nature, and of course, the iconic Classic Chain makes an appearance too. Here are the three pieces we’ll be shopping from the Golden Hour capsule collection this Ramadan.
1. The Classic Chain Bracelet
John Hardy’s Classic Chain design has been around for as long as the brand itself. First founded in 1975, the iconic Classic Chain has been a signature mainstay in almost every collection, yet over the years, it has evolved into a diverse family of textures, gauges, and weaves.
For the Golden Hour capsule collection, the Classic Chain takes shape in the form of a 4mm bracelet made from 18k gold contrasted by a 7mm x 5mm emerald in a luminous cut. We love the striking combination of yellow gold with piercing emerald, but if you’d prefer a different colour palette, John Hardy’s current Icon Collection features the same Classic Chain bracelet with a range of different gemstones in beautiful shades.
2. The Radial Band Ring
If you’re more into finger bling, the Radial Band Ring in 18k gold demands attention with its 7.5mm width. The woven detail is simply darling, infusing intricate line work that is inspired by the elusive geometrics of a mandala. Choosing the mandala as a source of inspiration portrays how nature-oriented the brand is, and in certain angles, the woven pattern even looks like a terraced rice field; a subtle homage to John Hardy’s island home.
And just the iconic Classic Chain bracelet, a gorgeous emerald takes centre stage on the Radial Band Ring, secured in a bold bezel set. Gleaming in a square cut, the placement of the emerald is slightly rotated to create a rhombus shape. The ring is a scene-stealer with delicate lines and elaborate shapes.
3. The Moon Door Necklace
Out of all the pieces in the John Hardy Golden Hour capsule collection, the Moon Door Necklace is arguably the most stunningly complex. The rolo-style chain is 2mm wide and is adjustable from 22 to 24 inches long. The chain carries the pièce de résistance, comprising three circular tiers in a consecutive arrangement, each of which rotate individually.
The aptly named Moon Door necklace is inspired by Bali’s sacred full moon ceremony, an occasion that represents optimistic opportunities and new beginnings. And it certainly shows in this glorious piece. The necklace is studded with precious gems lining the 18k gold structure. The outer ring of the pendant sees brown diamonds, yellow sapphires and tsavorite stones in a pavé set, while the middle ring is fringed by six gemstones. Last but certainly not least, the central sphere is the most breathtaking, with a luminous emerald surrounded by a sparkling horizon of white diamonds in varying sizes.
The John Hardy Bali Experience
Right here in Bali, a visit to John Hardy’s two boutiques is so much more than a shopping trip. John Hardy’s flagship store in Mambal – the Kapal Bamboo Boutique – literally means ‘bamboo ship boutique’ in Indonesian. Built from sustainable and natural local materials, the store stands tall at 90 feet high, resembling a majestic cathedral among the 100-acres of verdant land and rice fields – a true feast for the eyes. Visiting the Kapal Bamboo Boutique can be a full-day experience, with countless cultural activities to take part in, such as a jewellery workshop, a Long Table Lunch, interactive masterclasses, or simply browsing the John Hardy archive.
Meanwhile, the John Hardy Boutique & Gallery in Seminyak is an equally stunning destination where you can lose track of time and immerse in the world of John Hardy. Beyond browsing and shopping for jewellery, at the Seminyak store you can join seasonal conceptual workshops, and catch exhibitions and events that support local artists and change-makers. The Seminyak boutique is also a fantastic dining destination, offering a modern take on authentic Indonesian food and traditional drinks at the boutique’s The Kitchen, The Long Table and The Jamu Bar.
