New Mall in Bali
There’s not a lot to lure us into deepest, darkest Kuta but we have to confess that the new Beachwalk Kuta shopping centre is a sizeable draw card. It’s jam packed with all our favourite shops including Mango, GAP, Pull & Bear, Topshop, and Satu, a gorgeous shop featuring Indonesia’s hottest designers. The food is good (we tried and tested it!), plenty of stuff for the kids to do, and (rejoice!) a brand new cinema.
Lovely, light, and airy – apparently it’s been designed to resemble the contours of a rice paddy. We actually think it looks more like Singapore – if Singers had shopping malls right on the beach! But props for the clever concession to old Bali.
The dedicated kid’s play area means that if the ankle biters are tired of shopping there’s plenty for them to do. The indoor play area is packed with water features so bring some swimmers. Additional bribery material can be purchased at Haagen Dazs or Cold Stone Creamery, and Johnny Rocket’s burgers and fries should satisfy the most shopped-out tummies.
If you’re looking for some grown up tucker, we love Café Sardinia on the ground floor, with stunning views over the beach. Or if you’re looking for something a bit more casual then head to the top floor for some local fare in the food hall; there is some delicious pan-Asian cuisine to be found.
For us movie starved Bali-ites, the best thing about Beachwalk is the fabulous shiny new cinema, with a premiere class featuring enormous chairs, snug blankets, and its very own bar. Now that’s worth a trip into Kuta alone!
