Go for a rum tour around the city and get savvy with rum, hearty eats, and Caribbean culture at this festival in Keong Saik
Those of us who are passionate about rum will know the storied spirit hardly gets as much attention as whiskies and fine wines. But, here’s a reason for lovers of rum to rejoice – from Monday to Friday, 10-15 July, Destination Beverage will bring the Rasa Fiesta Singapura celebration to Jiak Chuan Road.
The event is also a celebration of Caribbean, South American and Filipino culture and lifestyle – three cultures in which rum is a pillar. Bars like Sugarhall, Vasco, Potato Head, Bread Street Kitchen, and Lime House will mix up a selection of rum-based cocktails that will go from $15 to $25. If you’re a purist, however, not to worry – there’ll be plenty of opportunities to sample complex aged rums and rarities from the participating rum bars.
If you’re keen on sampling all that this rum festival has to offer, visit each stop on the Rasa Fiesta Singapura map, where each cocktail purchased will get revellers a stamp. Once five stamps are collected, guests can redeem prizes including coupons, tiki mugs, and even a one-night staycation at the Executive Room of Swissotel Merchant Court. Posting your photo with the official hashtag #rasafiestasingapura will also put you in the running for prizes as well.
The event will culminate in a street party on 15 July where Jiak Chuan Road will be transformed into a bustling Tiki Festival with music and dance parties. Lime House and Phat Cat Laundry will serve up their tropical rum concoctions by roadside booths, while restaurants like Senor Taco will dish out spectacular street food. Also part of the lineup are artisanal booths, craft stalls, and tattoo services that aren’t to be missed.
So no more lamenting rum’s lack of exposure – here’s your chance to don those tropical print shirts and head down for a rum-fuelled adventure in Caribbean culture!
