Brandon and Shiao's Wedding at Food For Thought, Botanic Gardens
This might be our favourite celebration yet.
We first heard about this wedding during its planning stages and knew we wanted to feature it. Not only is it thoughtful, grounded, and sincere, the couple’s love goes beyond a genuine celebration of love for each other – it extends to the community!
Brandon Myles Krause, Managing Director of Myles & More, and Shiao-Yin Kuik, one of the founding directors of The Thought Collective, wed at Food for Thought at the Botanic Gardens on 19 May 2012.
They worked with our friends at In Merry Motion to create a wedding that was about feasting, abundance, and celebrating the earth’s goodness… and all of the planning took place in under 3 months, including permit applications to use government land and property!
Guests were greeted at the reception table, which had complimentary twig banners for them to pick up and wave during the ceremony, as well as programme booklets designed by the couple’s good friend, Joanne Lim.
Psst – check out the extensive list of activities the couple lined up for their guests!

The programme also answered the #1 most-asked question of all weddings: so, how did you guys meet?

After the ceremony, guests headed indoors for an informal wedding dinner. There were communal tables for friends to mingle and VIP tables with wait staff.

In line with the theme of feasting and abundance, dinner was served buffet-style, which meant that guests could choose what they wanted to eat and the portions they were comfortable with. You can also see how close-knit the community is – Mama Heng is the mother of the head chef at Food For Thought.

There was also a DIY cookie bar for guests to gift cookies to someone they love. We heard from the girls at In Merry Motion that they spied a little girl fishing out cookies from the jars herself to hand them out to her family. She was carrying 7 bags at the same time!

We’ll be honest: we wish we could have attended this wedding! Guests had a host of activities to choose from, including getting their portraits done by the talented people at OIC and taking wacky photos at a photobooth set up by One Eye Click.
Remember we talked about how this wedding was also all about the community? Brandon and Shiao used what would have been money for outdoor tentage and contributed that toward Show Hope, an organization in China that helps care for orphans. Guests also contributed to the organization by donating $20 per portrait.

Instead of a traditional wedding cake, the couple had January, the pastry chef at Food For Thought, make them their own “humble pie”. They figured they’d be eating lots of it throughout their marriage, so they decided to jump the gun and start at their wedding!
