Review: SpaTea at Grand Hyatt Singapore
Imagine you have Wednesday afternoon off. You make your way to a quiet, centrally-located spa, where you’re scrubbed down and massaged before tucking in to a divine afternoon tea buffet with your best girl pal – bubbles included.
Well thanks for making our dreams come true, Damai Spa!
We recently sneaked off for some time off at Damai Spa at the Grand Hyatt (shh, don’t tell the boss), where we enjoyed an afternoon to remember.
The SpaTea for two is an indulgent experience, and is perfect for catching up with a mate. We requested the double treatment suite (a complimentary upgrade) so that we could, you know, catch up on work – but no prizes guessing how that worked out.
The session begins with a warm footbath where you also choose your massage oil – the option range from balancing to renewing. You’re then given a thorough but gentle scrubdown with an all-natural lemon sugar body polish (30 mins), which works especially well for dull skin that’s constantly exposed to dry skin conditions like travelling or working in a/c 24/7. Once you’re rinsed off, prepare to be treated to a blissful full-body massage (60 mins) by exceptionally skilled therapists – these ladies know exactly which knots need to be ironed out while ensuring you aren’t in pain. We even managed to catch some ZZZs – mark of a good massage we say!
What follows is the moment of truth. We love a good spa sesh, but when we’re guaranteed great food after… well let’s just say we’d make a beeline for the buffet anyday. Still in post-spa bliss, we floated down to 10 Scotts for a decadent afternoon tea buffet.
There’s a small selection of cheese, chilled appetizers, hot mains, and of course a string of mouth-watering desserts available at the buffet line, but special attention should also be paid to the two-tiered tray that comes to your table shortly after you take your seat. The tray is a mix of both Asian and western high tea delights, including one very popular popiah (the house special) and an especially scrummy crabcake. All dishes are free-flow so eat up! Scones are heated up on demand and brought to your table with the requisite clotted cream and jam at the end of your afternoon tea stomach workout. Tip: Take the time and toast to weekday afternoons off… it’s free-flow bubbles after all.
Afternoon tea is available twice daily at 1230pm and 3pm. Even if you choose to forgo the spa sesh, this afternoon tea is a peaceful, quiet, and filling gem on busy Orchard Road. The SpaTea package for two is priced at SGD388++.
