Weekend Scoop for Foodies
So, you may have caught our scoop on reunion dinner spots in Singas; but if you’re looking for alternative festive feasting this weekend, beyond the typical Asian fare, we’ve got Belgian, French, German, Italian, or even exotic Indian. Listen up!
It’s all about celebrating unity this Lunar New Year at Table by Rang Mahal. Priced at $48++ per pax, their Good Fortune and Happiness three-course set menu (31 Jan – 1 Feb) will offer a flavoursome Indian alternative to the conventional oriental grub. Kick off with your choice appetizer (salad, soup, or kulzza), relish a spread of tandoori meats and side dishes, and end on a sweet note with Table’s signature sugar-free popsicle dessert.
Celebrity chef restaurant db Bistro Moderne is jumping on the festive bandwagon, with an exclusive family-style dinner menu (30 Jan – 2 Feb) crafted by Executive Chef Jonathan Kinsella. We’re talking a lavish seafood platter (brimming with oysters, lobster, shrimp, and razor clams), Boston lobster & black pepper mee, roast stuffed suckling pig, and a fusion desert – baked alaska with caramelised white chocolate and mandarin sorbet. Bon appétit!
If your favourite part of a meal is dessert (yes, we know) then make a beeline for Au Chocolat. Their reasonably-priced Lunar New Year set menus ($38++ for two courses, $48++ for three courses) run till 12 Feb and include unique dishes like nicoise salad in yu sheng style, creamy ‘drunken prawn’ pasta, and confit of duck leg Peking style. Don’t forget to cap off the night with their divine chocolate tower cake!
Brotzeit is rolling out a hearty abundance pan ($88, meant for 5-6 pax) which dishes succulent grilled meats (like pork chop, pork belly, and pork cheeks), their signature German pork knuckles, and generous servings of sides. Available 22 Jan till 14 Feb! Cheers to the New Year with Brotzeit beer family’s latest member – Schneider Weisse’s Meine blonde Weiss.
Go Italiano with Jamie’s Italian‘s innovative take on the traditional yu sheng. Ditching the usual ingredients for an Italian crunchy root vegetable salad as a base, the yu sheng is topped with assorted vegetables, dressed in refreshing vinaigrette, and served with the restaurant’s signature beetroot-cured salmon slices (which exude a bright red hue). Available 27 Jan to 14 Feb, kick off your meal with this as a starter before indulging in Jamie’s signature Italian fare.
Planning dinner this weekend at Cocotte? Ring in the New Year festivities with their French-style yu sheng (15 Jan – 14 Feb), available for dine in and takeaway, which features a creative mix of crisp beetroot strips, fresh fruits, assorted nuts, and sprinkle of spices including the French spice blend of quatre epices. If you’re tired of the typical sliced salmon (starts from $48++), Cocotte offers the choice of fresh poached lobster (starts from $98++).
Putting a different spin on the New Year yu sheng is the name of the game. Brussel Sprouts – Belgian Beer & Mussels is rolling out an exclusive Belgian yu sheng which presents a delightful combination of beetroot, mussel crackers, and rollmops, with a dressing of apple butter and raspberry vinegar. The celebrations aren’t complete without a toast with a bottle of their specialty Belgian beers!
