One of the best jazz clubs in Singapore near Haji Lane celebrates its birthday with a free street party (and free shots)
Ask a scenester which top jazz club they’d recommend in Singapore, and chances are, Blu Jaz Café would be it. For 13 years, the nightlife spot near Haji Lane has hosted jazz gigs and open-mics on its three floors – showcasing brilliant and extraordinary musicians who do the genre proud.
Unlike other live music venues that conform to Top 40s hits, Blu Jaz Café has gone against the grain with more than just jazz concerts filled with unpredictable arrangements and ingenious solos galore. Blu Jaz Café has also been home to parties of all styles – UK drum & bass, world music, hip-hop, and even trance at some points. And come its 13th birthday on 8 July, it’s throwing yet another party for the ages – one that’s out in the streets.
For one night only, Blu Jaz Café will be transformed into a music village with all sorts of streetside shenanigans. Expect a globetrotting soundtrack of world music from live bands, Men In Groove, New Stream Brass Band, and Ireson Latin Band; and chill out with dancefloor-friendly cuts from DJs, Anand Nair, Kenneth Francis, Jag, and Kartik Keyan.
The best part? This festival is absolutely free. And if you need some liquid courage, the first 100 who turn up even get free shots. Tempted yet?
