Review: Uma by COMO, Ubud
Ah, work. Sometimes work life can get a little tough, especially when we’re staying at 5 star hotels in the always luxurious Bali. 9am wake up call? Too early!
We recently had the pleasure of staying at Uma by COMO, part of the COMO group (and you know how much we like them!). Let’s just say this was one intimate experience. The hotel immerses you in the culture of Bali while also providing luxury amenities, from food to spa to exquisite accommodation—all among the paddy fields and hills of this lush Indonesian island. It’s also quite small – there are only 46 rooms and suites, so expect full attention from the always polite staff!
All 46 rooms and suites at this hotel exude the charm of a traditional Indonesian village. Except the feel is also quietly contemporary, from bedrooms to landscaped courtyards to infinity-edged plunge pools. We particularly enjoyed the gorgeous bathroom with an outdoor shower – a must-have whenever we find ourselves in Bali.
We’re happy to report that the service is impeccable, as is the food at the in-house restaurant, Kemiri. The Asian-inspired cuisine was a real highlight of our trip, but the passionfruit martini we had at dinner? That remains one of the best cocktails we’ve had to date!
Uma by COMO is also a slice of serenity that’s also close to buzzing activity. On the hotel grounds you can take daily yoga lessons and hosted walks, but it’s also close to the shops, galleries, and restaurants of Ubud. Ask the hotel for English-speaking guides to take you around the area – they’re more than happy to explain the local culture as well as show you around the tourist attractions and even bring you to an artisan workshop!
If you’re looking to lounge in the beautiful Ubud but want to be able to switch out of lounge mode to holiday ventura mode really quickly, this one’s for you.
