Forget about kitschy souvenirs; these one-of-a-kind super-fly shoes celebrate Singapore's culture with a mega dose of cool
National Day may be over, but there’s still plenty to celebrate about our nation turning the big 5-0. PUMA has joined forces with local sneaker boutique Limited Edt for a locally inspired tribute with a patriotic twist.
PUMA and Limited Edt’s three-part series feature three unique sneaker designs, each showcasing a different side of Singapore’s rich heritage. The first is titled ‘Blaze of Glory SG50’: an updated reinterpretation of the original Blaze of Glory PUMA sneakers that uses our iconic Merlion as a source of inspiration.
The shoes’ grey upper is covered in 3D printed fish scales on 3M reflective material, meant to represent the Merlion’s body. In addition, they’re also lined with pony hair, representing the Merlion’s mane. A speckled rubber outsole symbolises the water from where it stands, while its shoelaces and heel tabs are decorated in our flag’s colours — red and white. Even the insoles are decked out in vibrant shades, filled with imagery that tells a story about our history.
Naturally, us folks in Singapore get first dibs on this local gem, which was released last month — while the rest of the world waited an additional week before it was released in stores worldwide. The first 215 people to get their hands on a ‘Blaze of Glory SG50’ will bring home their very own collector’s edition box, also richly Singaporean themed on the inside and out.
PUMA’s Blaze of Glory SG50 is available exclusively online and in Limited Edt stores, retailing at $240 for the regular box purchase and $259 for the limited edition box purchase.
