It would only be right – and patriotic, for us to test drive all the great deals for Singapore’s 50th birthday. Here, we review the SG50 Weekend Staycation at Pan Pacific Singapore – an exclusive package designed with Singapore residents in mind.
Packing your bags and heading to the heart of Marina Bay feels a little comical – especially if you work in the area, but once you’re checked in and you realise the hotel is connected via skybridge to three shopping malls, your mission becomes apparent!
Be sure to settle into the room first though. Their stylish and contemporary design – by John Portman, means you will actually want to spend time there before hitting the malls. The Pacific Harbour Studio option is spacious and well appointed, with breath-taking views of the South China Sea. If you must, catch up on some emails from the ergonomic Herman Miller desk chair in the dinky workspace, while your other half whips you up a Nespresso and runs you a bubble bath in the generous and stylish marble bathroom.
There are many different room types to choose from – 790 to be exact, but our tip is to book the Pacific Rooms (if the Presidential suite is beyond the budget!) as you’ll then receive access to the Pacific Club, located on level 38. The club has an eclectic décor and vibe – sort of salon de thé meets opulent hotel meeting space in the sky. The 360-degree views are nothing short of spectacular and you will see new things from up there you didn’t even know existed. The club offers a champagne breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails. We particularly liked the familiarity between the bar staff and some of the regular patrons. It was warm and made us feel..well, like we were part of a club.
Plan ahead and book yourself a treatment at the St. Gregory Spa – which we know and love since time began, and still consider among Singapore’s best. The act of shuffling en robe from the spa to your lounge by the pool is a decadence reserved for hotel stays, so we recommend you take full advantage. The pool area is chilled and low key. We ordered up a storm of poolside snacks including delicious barbecue king prawns and satay. Just be careful not to get greedy on the pours or your G&Ts will cost the earth – and you’ll nevertheless pay for the privilege whilst drinking from a plastic cup.

Breakfast can be taken in the Pacific Club or at Edge the “food theatre” restaurant. Here, seven live food theatres present a la minute cuisine, which includes a culinary tour of Singapore, the region and Pacific Rim.
After breakfast, head out to many of the attractions that are within short walking distance from the hotel such as Gardens by the Bay, MBS or Esplanade – Theatres by the Bay. Great if you can coincide your stay to take in a show!
This SG50 weekend staycay is available on weekends until 29 December 2015. Priced from $258 it incudes:
