Colour experts Pantone just announced their colour of the year: Pantone Color of the Year 2015 Marsala 18-1438, an earthy rust red that will, no doubt, make you think of wine. We quite like it but it has caused a bit of a stir in the design blogosphere.
New York Magazine’s The Cut called Marsala “icky” but, well, it seems to have everyone’s attention.
Pantone says: “Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness. This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors”.
Does the fact we bought an entire Helmut Lang outfit and pair of J Brand jeans in this hue in New York in the winter of 2012 make us uber trendy or Pantone a bit slow on the uptake? We’re not sure. But we’re sure we can work with this again in 2015.
Tell us what you think.
