For hassle-free rental, homegrown brand Tribecar has the widest range of vehicles available at easily accessible locations in Singapore.
Singapore is home to lush green gardens, amazing architecture and world-class attractions. But look a little closer and you’ll also find hidden parks, secret spots and lesser-known places to explore. The easiest way to cover every nook and cranny of the island? With a car, of course! Best of all, you don’t have to splurge and purchase your own vehicle when there’s Tribecar, a community-driven car sharing platform. Here’s everything you need to know about the homegrown brand and its pocket-friendly car rental options in Singapore.
1. It’s flexible and easy to use
The entire car rental experience is fuss-free, thanks to Tribecar’s extensive network of locations and vehicle types. We hopped on the platform to check it out, and a quick search for a weekend afternoon gave us multiple options, including Standard Sedans and SUVs, Economy MPVs and Super Economy cars. Depending on where you are, you can choose the pickup spot anywhere from Bedok Reservoir to Farrer Park to Sengkang West.
The choices are limitless, seriously. That’s what we love about it! You can be hanging out at a friend’s place in Punggol and spontaneously decide to drive to Sentosa for dinner. Or you can pick up the entire family for a fun trip to the Night Safari – without having to search for bus routes or wait for cabs.
Just picture yourself cruising along the road without a care in the world, living your best life. And since you can collect your car of choice at over 450 pickup points across the island, most of them near an MRT station, it really doesn’t get any easier than this.
2. It’s affordable and convenient
This platform is pay-as-you-use. That means your wallet will thank you because rates start from as low as $0.50 per hour for the new Super Economy class cars. True story: we searched for a car on a weekday afternoon at Geylang Bahru and got a 5-seater Toyota Altis – at just $5 for two hours starting at noon. You can also opt for add-ons like personal accident insurance and super collision damage waiver. However, even with these, our total came up to less than $7. During off-peak hours, the same search gave us the same type of car, but it only cost $1 for two hours at midnight. Totally wallet-friendly!
If you’ve got the day off and you’d like to explore far-flung, inaccessible places like Kranji Countryside or Coney Island with the family, Tribecar’s perfect for that. We chose a 7-seater Toyota Wish at Holland Village for four hours on a Wednesday morning, and the rental fee came up to just $10. FYI: petrol isn’t included, but as long as you don’t return the vehicle on an empty tank, you’re good.
Oh, and since there aren’t any membership fees, signup is free. All you have to do is add credits to your account, book a car, unlock it through the web app to pick it up, and drive off. Psst: you can even earn extra income while you drive. The cars come with Z10 insurance and can be used as private-hire vehicles.
3. It has vehicles for all types of drivers
We love a good ‘made in Singapore’ story and Tribecar doesn’t disappoint. The homegrown company was actually conceptualised as a result of the founders’ love for cars! Did you know: they took into account their interests, personal experiences and feedback from the community to curate the selection. The result? Tribecar’s wide range of vehicles you won’t find elsewhere. You have more than 600 to choose from, including economical cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles and luxury cars.
Curious about the reason behind the vast selection? The founders were actually keen on a Class 2B license when an opportunity arose for them to include motorcycles in the rental line-up. And when they relocated to a new home, they discovered the costly delivery fees of moving bulky items. That’s when they decided to feature vans as well. As for luxury cars, these joined the fleet as the founders couldn’t afford to purchase one, yet they wanted anyone to have access to that fancy driving experience. When the community requested for private-hire and commercial vehicles, Tribecar brought them on board, too. Just take a look at the platform and you’ll find options for any type of driver.
Can’t wait to start driving around Singapore? Book your vehicle on Tribecar and say hello to endless adventures.
