These traditional sweets are taking a film noir spin this Mid-Autumn Festival season.
The Honeycombers team are a sugar-lovin’ bunch and one traditional Chinese treat we can’t do without are mooncakes. We’ve got a soft spot for this standout rendition by Fairmont Singapore and not only do these sweets come in a special assortment of flavours, the visuals that accompany them seem to invoke the sensual aesthetic of Wong Kar-Wai – one of our favourite auteurs.
Inspired by Shanghai’s vibrant Jazz Age, these dreamlike images feature some of Fairmont’s elegant creations, such as the baked plum and figs mooncake. Baked with smooth white lotus paste, we reckon this is a refreshing new flavour that’ll appeal to more adventurous taste buds.
Of course, you can’t go wrong with flavours like Champagne truffle and chocolate ganache, which will be making an appearance this year. For a dash of alcohol, the mini snowskin rum and raisin should satisfy your sweet tooth – it also comes with chocolate truffle and chances are, you won’t be saying no to that.
Another new and fail-safe addition, the mini salted egg caramel is a combination of savoury and sweet flavours. It’s also got the all-important chocolate praline, a must for any dessert lover. Speaking of classics, we’ve got our eye on the roasted pine nuts in white lotus paste – and if you’re feeling extra indulgent, the baked double yolk in white lotus paste will hit the spot. Oh, and we call dibs on the single yolk and macadamia nuts mooncake in white lotus paste.
