Sungei Road Thieves Market is back at temporary spot in the city for all your antique, vintage and second-hand shopping
UPDATE: This event has been cancelled for the time being.
So you think you’ve seen the last of Sungei Road Thieves Market? Think again. The 80-year-old flea market may have departed from Sungei Road to make way for future residential developments, but it’s nowhere near to saying goodbye. In fact, it is back in business at a temporary new home this weekend.
Great news for bargain-hunters island-wide (and the rag-and-bone peddlers who make a living from the market); Singapore’s oldest flea market returns on 15 July at the Golden Mile Tower carpark. Despite bidding adieu to Sungei Road on 10 July, this relic of Singapore culture will let you put your bargaining skills to the test once again and bag a couple of steals, including a treasure trove of knick-knacks – think household goods, car parts, shoes and accessories.
However, don’t mark the Golden Mile Tower carpark as the market’s new permanent spot, as it’s yet to find a new fixed home. Unfamiliar with this beloved flea market? Here’s our last look at its original location.
If you’re looking to sell your wares and be part of the Sungei Road Thieves Market family, you can now do so by booking booth spaces and start trading. Booths are also available for musicians and general garage sales. Get in touch with [email protected] for more information.
Sungei Road Thieves Market, open from 15 July at Golden Mile Tower, 6001 Beach Road, Singapore 199589, from 12.30pm to 7.30pm.
Absolutely not forgotten, here are other heritage ‘hoods which have now been shut down for residential development. Take a closer look at Dakota Crescent and Rochor Centre here.
