Gig-goers, you’re in for a wave of nostalgia this month. From classic rock legends like Journey and Guns N’ Roses, to guitar hero Joe Satriani, and even emo throwbackers Yellowcard – February will take you on a trip down memory lane with these Big Gigs.
Bring Me The Horizon: 2 February at D’Marquee, Downtown East
We finally get these alt-rock deviants after waiting for what seems like an eternity! Bouts of illness kept these Sheffield anarchists out of action previously, but there’s no stopping them now. It looks like they’re just beyond the horizon, as they bring with them their growling vocals and belligerent dose of riotous rock.

Xingfoo & Roy LP Launch Show: 4 February at The Yellow Cage
Who said emo was dead? Rowdy radicals in the local music scene, Xingfoo & Roy (they’re actually a trio, and those aren’t even their names) are launching their debut album – the audaciously titled 10 Dating Tips for The Spineless Youth Addicted to Pornography. They’ll be opened by fellow scene-shakers, Subsonic Eye, The Neptune Waves, and Long Live The Empire.

Huayi Chinese Festival of Arts: 3-12 February at The Esplanade
If the CNY buzz has made you more curious about Chinese culture, The Esplanade is the place you wanna visit. For 10 days, the arts hub offers a dazzling variety of activities and performances with Huayi Chinese Festival of Arts, including concerts from Taiwanese popstars like Yoga Lin and PiA.

Don’t stop believing we did, and we’ve been rewarded with the arrival of these classic rock phenoms. These icons have certainly proved that there’s no end to their journey despite the departure of frontman, Steve Perry, and they’re still going strong with the fiery Arnel Pineda on mic duties.

Yellowcard: 12 February at The Coliseum
Scream your lungs out and try to get to Yellowcard, ’cos this might be the last time you’ll ever get to catch them. To the heartbreak of pop-punk fans outside of their homestate of Florida, Yellowcard announced that this would be their final world tour – you ready for one more trip down “Ocean Avenue”?

Keong Saik Block Party: 18 February at Keong Saik Road
Who’s game for a block party along one of Singapore’s hippest streets? Co-organised by Urban Ventures and Noise Singapore, this pop-up fiesta will showcase a whopping number of 21 homegrown musicians from the Noise Music Mentorship of 2016. There’ll be both a live stage featuring full bands like indie-rockers Bakers In Space and alt-rockers The Great White Lark, and an acoustic stage with stripped-down sets from the r&b-influenced Ffion and shoegazers Subsonic Eye.

Joe Satriani: 21 February at Kallang Theatre
Ask any guitarist about their idols on the axe, and they’ll likely have this legend topping the list. Worshipped as one of the greatest guitar heroes of our time, Joe Satriani has worked with everyone from The Rolling Stones to Deep Purple, and other rock greats through his 30-year career.

The big names just keep on coming this month! Another household name who’s inspired a generation of singer-songwriters is James Taylor, who’s dabbled in everything from folk to blues. He’s been telling stories with his weathered vocals and guitar prowess since the ’60s, so you can imagine the staggering number of hearts he’s touched.

Yiruma: 25 February at The Star Theatre
It’s not all about moshing and pogo-ing in our Big Gigs of the month; besides, you’ll wanna stay seated for this deluge of emotions. One of the most prolific classical pianists who’s blazing trails in the industry, Yiruma has made a name for himself beyond his native home of South Korea, with poignant piano-led compositions that will make you shed a tear or two.

Guns N’ Roses: 25 February at Changi Exhibition Centre
Who would’ve thought we’d see this reunion happen in our lifetime? Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan have miraculously reunited to bestow a new lease of life to their rock legacy, one that’s unleashed hits like “Welcome To The Jungle” and “Sweet Child O’ Mine”. And believe it or not, they’ll be opened by fellow rock rebels, Wolfmother, so expect a marathon of moshing.
