Our seasons here only range from dry to monsoon, but that doesn’t stop some of us of dreaming of a season where the leaves change colours and we can break out our jumpers.
Ah yes, autumn, we miss you. We also miss pumpkin spice, the flavour best associated with the season. But unfortunately, although we have about 150 Starbucks (the originators of pumpkin spice) in the country, we still can’t our taste buds on the autumnal taste. Starbucks Indonesia does offer two autumn specials – French vanilla latte and a dark caramel latte – but we still miss that sweet, spicy, pumpkin-y taste.
Thankfully for the kitchen-savvy, there is an easy recipe for pumpkin spice (with ingredients that you can find in Jakarta) that will also keep for a while, so you can keep it on hand all season and beyond, for a quick hit of fall. Mix it into almost anything sweet: lattes and coffee of course, cookies, and pumpkin pies for an extra spice boost.
Simple Pumpkin Spice Mix
4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon nutmeg
And if all else fails …
