Dharmawangsa is truly one of our favourite neighbourhoods in Jakarta. While it may be known more as a quiet residential area covered in lush green trees, but this sleepy South Jakarta neighbourhood has more than its fair share of hidden gems. For all you vegetarians, vegans, raw food enthusiasts and clean eating nuts, Burgreens Express is your place to go in the city for guilt-free food. Since it’s situated right next to Union Yoga, you can easily pop in to this charming cafe to fuel up after a grueling Bikram sesh.

Teras by Plataran takes over two stories at Darmawangsa Square. The homely restaurant serves casual Nyonya dishes at that are simple, but never boring. Dining here, just like at any Peranakan household, is a communal affair. Load up on nasi goreng telur asin, iga cabe ijo, and their life-changing tahu telur asin (actually meant for sharing, but, we’d be okay with ordering our own plate, tbh.)

For a meal fit for Indonesian royalty, head to the Plataran. Serving up authentic Indonesian food under a royal Javanese setting, it’s no wonder this is wonderful restaurant is often booked up in advance as a wedding venue or for other special gatherings. The ornate main dining room with its chandelier and incredible wall carvings is a special experience in itself, but it is its truly wonderful menu that keeps patrons coming back for seconds.

With its quiet, zen ambience and spa-like interiors, Union Yoga Dharmawangsa feels more like a yoga sanctuary than a yoga studio. Their spacious studios offer a plethora of yoga classes including Bikram, Sveda, acro yoga, vinyasa, ashtanga and more, while their smaller-sized classes give this boutique studio a more private and personalised feel.
