Check out these flower markets and street stalls for wallet-friendly blooms.
We all have our little black book of favourite florists on-call for those special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, Mother’s Day, and Valentine’s Day. But for a little DIY project, why not get crafty by arranging your own flower bouquets at home? Head to these traditional flower markets to forage the freshest bunch of baby’s breath, lilies, peonies, roses, and other exotic flowers – at a price that won’t break bank!
If you’re feeling adventurous and very DIY, hunt your own buds and petals in Jakarta’s biggest flower market: Rawa Belong! Okay, scratch that – it’s actually the biggest in South-Asia. Housed in two separate buildings (one dedicated to fresh flowers and the other to the accessories and decorating equipment like pots and steel fences), Rawa Belong will leave you spoilt for choice – you name it, they’ve got it.
This market is freshly stocked every Thursday, while second-hand flowers come in on Mondays (prices could go down to a third of the original, but keep an eye for quality!). To get ahead in the game, we usually start at 6am – and make sure you’ve got those haggling skills down pat.
Pasar Bunga Rawa Belong, Jl. Sulaiman No. 50, Kebon Jeruk.
Jalan Kemang Selatan
If that’s too much effort (especially on flooding days), opt for flower stalls closer to home, bearing a little price-hike of course. Among our favorites are the stalls in Kemang Selatan (right in front of the Hero compound). Sometimes we call up Agus, one of the owners, to help us with floral decorations at home for parties.
Jl. Kemang Selatan I, Kemang, South Jakarta. Contact Agus at +62 87877788853.
Jalan Terogong Raya
Another spot we like is Jalan Terogong Raya. The flower stalls are located close to the Jakarta International School, across Total gas station. You’ll find local and imported roses, chrysanthemums and tuberoses. One thing here that’ll get you a better price than good bargaining skills? Be a regular. Check in between 7-9am to get the freshest florals in stock.
Jl. Terogong Raya, Pondok Indah, South Jakarta.
